I was excited about wireless CarPlay and the big screen in my ‘24, but the quirks may cause me to stop soon. It rarely starts playing what I want to listen to, and some apps don’t have CarPlay versions. And it runs Waze automatically so I’m constantly killing that app when I get somewhere.
I’m probably old (school), but for really short trips I‘m ok with radio and only use my phone for trips over 10 minutes or so.

I use AA adapter and the wireless charging phone mount from Bulletpoint with a Magsafe phone case. Holds on well. Only issue is the constant "trying to connect" after I get home and car is in the garage. There is a thread on Gladiator forum for a work around messing with fuse box but I haven't tried that.
Yes, dealing with "trying to connect" headaches for 60-70 minutes / until the USB ports power down, is a real pain in the arse.. very annoying for sure.

Rather then workarounds (In line switch, rewire USB power, etc.) do consider going with the AAWireless offering with it's companion app. That annoying issue will be history. Also the companion app gives you so much adjust ability.... and the AAWireless offering is up-dateable which makes it very special lets say.

The AAWireless dongle is the pick of the litter so to speak for the JL/JT.

Hopefully, the issues with the 2024 and it's native wireless will soon be remedied...

Go into the AAWIreless app and turn on "Start/Stop" mode, this makes the phone ignore the adapter until it sees the Bluetooth connection from your Jeep and will solve the constantly connecting issue. I was thinking it was Dongle mode in my earlier post but was wrong, I'm going back to edit that now.

Hmm, all this "Dongle Talk". I just connect with my Bluetooth. Seems to work fine with my Android, or my wife or kids IPhones. easy to choose which one.

With my 2018 JL, wired has always worked very well and to this day wired connect still does.. (I have always used Android smartphones)

In Feb 2022, I purchased a wireless dongle and from then on, I have run wireless the majority of the time. I drive lots... my JL is not a garage Queen.

Anyway, what a pleasure it is to not have to deal with a cable attached smartphone. Also, no unsightly cable in eyesight, no cable issues, etc.. For sure I am pro-wireless Android Auto or wireless Apple Car Play.

I encourage guys/gals to at least try wireless... I believe if they do try they will for ever more want to go wireless..

You never have AAWireless cut out for a minute or so? Mine does every time on the south side of Denver. Changing channels doesn't seem to help.

It also doesn't always connect. That part seems to get better over the years though.

Is it possible that you've never driven a vehicle with Android Auto or CarPlay? It's an order of magnitude better than traditional Bluetooth.

No, no issues with my setup.

Rarely that a disconnect occurs because of 5G related causes, but if disco happens, within seconds it connects again with no action by me.

When I have a disconnect, it is usually when near a large airport.

No issues wit connectivity using a Pixel/Android, I connect via dumbed-down bluetooth usually and use Android Auto only for long tips (if a map is required). That should have been a vote option (kind of like a 1a)? My rationale for this being the daily choice:
  • I don't need android data, apps and maps for normal trips (I use USB for my music and stream on standard bluetooth occasionally - not over android auto)
  • I found that Android auto was not displaying texts during driving - looked into this and could not find any solutions. A standard bluetooth connection shows them fine. Has this been anyone's experience? ****

**** - I did notice for 2024, Jeep programmed into the unit that if the vehicle is moving, you cannot open texts. You will just get the alert (my 2021 JT does not restrict this, and apparently this worked up to 2023JL's). I know, I know I should not be checking texts during driving anyway, so this is not a big deal - but just another example of the nanny society creeping into our personal lives at every turn.

It'll read those texts to you, right?

No, just the alert. When you click on the alert, it says vehicle must be stopped, you would think that would at least work!?!

Which plug? The one between the seats is notoriously problematic with iPhones.
No, I’m talking about the port near the shifter/next to the window switches. Perhaps something is wrong with mine?

On my 2018 JL with 8.4 radio .. using the AAWireless dongle / Android Auto, I "Launch" / use:
  1. Textra Texts
  2. Signal Messages
  3. Amazon Music
  4. Spotify
  5. Calendar
  6. Smart Things
  7. Google
  8. Weather
  9. Cell Phone calls in and out
  10. Google Maps
  11. Waze
  12. I also have an a 3rd generation, beta version, Amazon Alexa, I'm testing in the mix.
Everything gets along let say with the others. 8-)
As for restrictions in regard to opening texts when driving... no, none of that.

I have a car with Andriod Auto(not the Jeep), but for some reason it only hooks up when it feels like it. The Bluetooth is more consistent. Maybe I need a dongle.
