Just ordered the SGW bypass cables and vLinker MC+ so I can use Jscan. I've been reading through the threads and saw extension cables mentioned in a few of the threads. I don't know how often I'll need to connect the Jscan - I'm going to reprogram mine for 35s, and my son is getting paddle shifters for his '20 JLUR so we'll need to add that in.

So, do we need the extension cables? Or can I just use the bypass cables when necessary?

It depends how much you like cursing, bruising your hands, and contorting your body in unimaginable ways to disconnect the SGW connectors from their origninal location.

EDIT Although I will say that the 2018 are much easier to access than the 2024's, but still a PITA. But NO, you do not need the extension cable. It just makes life easier the next time you need to connect.

You don’t need them if you don’t mind leaving blood and skin cell DNA under the dash. Or enjoy swearing at inanimate objects.
100%. On my 2019, there was not enough clearance for my large hands and I would inevitably cut my hands on the sharp metal or on the clips.

Totally worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the quick responses!! I am a short guy with small hands so I guess I'll see how bad it is. If I have to bleed, then so be it :CWL: . Wheels and tires are in the garage and the vLinker is coming tomorrow so I was hoping to toss them on after work and get it programmed. If it really sucks I'll order the cables for my son's JLUR when we have to program the paddles.

Much easier to connect and disconnect with the extension cables. I’ve got them in my 2022 JLRU and they make a world of difference. I just added a 2021 Willys 2 door to my fleet. It does make things easier.

Yep. Good luck.

Should not be too bad. You don't have the premium sound system amp in your way. My 2018 was much easier to do than my current 2024 with all kinds of stuff jammed up in there.

Still worthwhile getting the SGW cable extenders from Z automotive.

Gotcha. My son’s JLUR has the premium system in it, so I’ll probably get the cables for his. Will keep you guys posted!

I didn't get an extension. I do have a long flat head screwdriver with a bent head. This way I can push the clip in and pull at the same time. No blood and no extra cord to hide.
