I recently bought an Ingersol Rand 1/2” air impact wrench and I need a new set of impact sockets for the Jeep. I’m not looking for Snap-On level quality, but no cheap junk either. A quality set for my garage that I might take along on a trail.

There are so many brands out there that it is hard to know what is a decent set. Some sets are missing certain sizes, and with my luck, that would be the one size I needed.

Your thoughts?

Tekton makes good stuff. Their warranty is fantastic. Lost a torx wrench from one of their cheap sets and emailed asking if they sold them individually. They rushed out a replacement at no charge, even though I was very clear that I lost it.

I’m on board with TEKTON. I have a 1/2 drive set that works great with my Ryobi 18V Impact Driver. For up here in the Salt belt you had better have something strong to knock that rust off.

My harbor freight ones have lasted longer than my husky and craftsman ones. And are still going strong after 8 years and multiple trail repairs, builds, etc

Tekton, buy from Amazon. Doubt you will find a lower cost high quality set anywhere else.

The Kobalt 1/2l full impact set in case is very nice And under $200. The case is snap in on both sides and won’t fling sockets everywhere if you close the wrong side.
I have TeKton for my 3/8” set and kobalt for the 1/2”. I use the 1/2 everywhere space allows.

I have a Kobalt set, which have been very good. the only problem I've had with them is that the laser etching has worn off the sockets I use the most. If I get a new set, I'll try to find some with the size stamped in. They've lasted me years using both air and electric impacts.

I also have a set of Neiko impact rated crow foot line wrenches. Great quality item from Amazon that didn't cost all too much.

Impact sockets have to be hardened differently than regular sockets. If you don't use them everyday for work, even a Harbor Freight or no name Amazon set will last you a good long time.

I'm sure you can have as many opinions on this subject as there are members of the forum! However, for me the choice seemed to revolve around how often I planned to use the tools-for the occasional wheel rotation or work underneath, you really don't need to spend a fortune. After a lot of researching the pros and cons of what's available, I settled on the Husky Metric and SAE sets through Lowes, with a few individual Craftsman sizes to round out the range. Around $75 but on sale for half that. For me this has worked well and the sockets have performed fine. I have the Dewalt 1/2 inch Impact wrench and Milwaukee 3/8 right angle. These work well with both even with an adaptor.

I have a 20 year old craftsman set of deep sockets and then a 5 year old set from harbor freight. I haven't had any issues either either of them, but the craftsman set has one rusty socket. Mind you, I don't take care of them or spray them down with anything.

If I were to buy another one, I would probably go with harbor freight. Cheap, and they seemed to have stood up pretty good. Since a lot of the cheap knockoffs are in that HF category, I'm not sure if it really matters what the brand is.

Thanks for all the insight everyone! After looking over the brands mentioned, I went with Tekton from their website. They didn’t skip any sizes and I was able to get a couple of small carrying cases instead of one big case. The ability to expand each set later without having to buy duplicates was a plus.
