Hi all!
Anyone have any experience with deleting the stock antenna?
I'd like to do away with the stock antenna and maybe install another trail rated badge.
I know the 2024 model is going to have the antenna in the windshield, which I like, but what other options exist for a stealth antenna that actually works?
Thanks in advance!

I just removed the mast and left the base.

The base doesn’t bother me; the mast did.

If you remove the stock antenna, you will not receive vital information from the resistance when the apes and zombies start their crap. Could also be the aliens, but I'm placing my bet on those damn dirty apes.

guessing folks know this but….. there is a benefit to keeping to stock antenna. If you do not have a roof rack, the stock antenna is the tallest item of your keep. Other than your back glass if it’s open I believe.

I live in a rural area and I don’t frequent parking garages. Probably no more than a few times a year. A couple years ago while on vacation in the mountains of East TN, we happened to be staying at a hotel that had a parking garage and we were out one beautiful day for a nice relaxing drive through the GSM. Doors and freedom panels off with back glass open. Thought nothing of it and drive right into the parking garage. My antenna never touched anything. Thankfully my back glass did not either. That would have been a bummer!!!!! I let out a sigh of relief when I got out of my jeep and realized I left it up…..

good luck.

I'm a big fan of the stock antenna. You can't delete it and expect anything else to 'actually work.'
I wonder if the new windshield one will even be as good. Ask the CB guys how they do it without a mast.
Either commit to using internet/satellite radio or leave it alone. That's my .02.

I replaced mine with a 13 inch antenna I got from Amazon. It works just fine, but I'm in a city/suburbs with lots of local radio stations. Not sure how it would do in rural areas.

I did an antenna delete on my Shelby back in the day. There are antennas you can adhere to the inside of the windshield but in my experience these only work in or close to towns.

That said, I don’t recall the last time I listened to AM/FM And have considered deleting the antenna on mine but not necessarily replacing it with anything else other than an emblem to cover the hole.

I agree with the other comment to keep the stock antenna. If it's the highest point in your Jeep, it'll give you a good idea of how much clearance you have, getting into buildings and parking lots ...

When I turn on the radio it's AM, to hear news, weather or traffic. Or to catch up on current events.

FM radio here absolutely sucks. The same songs over and over on the same stations, commercials and worthless trivia talk half the time. Plus, in San Antonio and south, the Mexican stations broadcast with higher power and bleed into stations that aren't nearby. They used to dominate AM, but now have a strong FM presence.

SXM is almost as bad, same limited play list on each channel. And weekends suck with a bunch of crappy live cuts and people talking about times past.

So, I need the antenna for AM. Music is now handled via Spotify

I just took mine off and replaced it with another Trail Rated badge. I've only used FM radio twice, once when I first took it off to see if it still worked (it did) and again for a half a day or so when I upgraded to the 8.4" waiting on my SXM subscription to renew.

I looked at the OEM antenna & mounting pretty closely, thinking I would delete the whole thing. I don't listen to FM, Sirius, etc... and it just seemed unnecessary. It can be done but it seemed like more trouble than it's worth. All my music listening comes from medium and high resolution files ripped from CD or downloaded from the internet & put on a USB drive that is plugged into the console USB slot.

So, I pulled the OEM antenna and installed a shorty from Craven Speed. I've had them on several vehicles, I know they work even though they are short, and they pull in FM radio very well. So I still have the FM listening option if wanted.

Never looked into it, but you got me thinking and I wonder if theres a way to disconnect the stock antenna, re-route the connection behind the dash and re-install the antenna and have it lay horizontally between the dash and windshield out of sight ?!?

Something along that idea is what I’m interested in…
