I recently changed my stubby antenna because the reception was cutting out in certain areas. I bought the 13” rydonair. But the reception still cuts out in the same areas. I guess theirs some interference in those areas not caused by my antenna. There’s no way for me to find out the cause. I wonder if there’s another brand that may be better. Any ideas. I’m going to have sirus do an over the air reboot to see if that helps.
thanx

Your Sirius XM radio doesn't use the antenna that's on the passenger side near the front wheel. There's one on top of the roll bar for that.
I have the fender antenna but there’s nothing on the roll bar Which is in the interior.

The XM antenna pod is on the top of the roll bar.

As already said, Sirius XM antenna is on the roll bar. Anything on your roof (cross bars, RTT) can adversely affect Sirius XM reception. Is your kayak up there? Plenty of internet info for moving the antenna when roof accessories get in the way.

Note that Sirius XM requires line of sight to the various satellites. Is the area where it loses reception blocked by buildings / trees / a tunnel / etc?
It’s rt 64, a 4 lane 55mph rd with trees lining both sides. There are 3 or 4 areas over 4 mile stretch where the signal is lost.

For clarify: you're talking about Sirius XM and not something else, right? Just making sure since you seem to be replacing unrelated parts.

If you're talking about Sirius XM, then, as others have noted, that antenna can be blocked by stuff on your roof. It can be really bad if you have a Sky One Touch (SOT) that's open half way.

So, if there's a chance that we might be able to help, we'd need to know the type of signal you're having issues with (AM, FM, Sirius XM, something else), the type of top you have, if you have anything mounted on top of it, and if there's something obviously special about those sections of road.

Until u mentioned a second antenna I didn’t know it existed. I had installed the roof insulation panels but since the interference occurs in the same areas it doesn’t seem like the panels are causing the issue

AI Overview

SiriusXM (formerly XM radio) can lose signal due to a few common reasons, including obstructions to the satellite signal, antenna issues, or problems with the receiver itself. Interference from weather, buildings, or even trees can block the signal. Antenna problems like damage, loose connections, or obstructions can also cause dropouts. Finally, software glitches or hardware malfunctions within the receiver can lead to signal loss.

Here's a more detailed look at the causes:
1. Satellite Signal Obstructions:
  • SiriusXM relies on signals from satellites in geostationary orbit, requiring a clear line of sight between the antenna and the satellite.

  • Obstructions like buildings, trees, bridges, or even tunnels can temporarily block the signal, causing momentary dropouts.

  • Areas with limited satellite coverage, like very rural locations or underground parking garages, can also experience signal loss.
2. Antenna Issues:
  • The antenna, typically mounted on the vehicle's roof or windshield, can be a source of problems.

  • Damage to the antenna, such as cracks or breaks, can impede signal reception.

  • Loose or corroded connections in the antenna cable can also cause signal loss.

  • Dirt, debris, or snow on the antenna can further degrade signal quality.

The radio could be losing signal due to trees on the side of the highway blocking line of sight to the satellites. I've experienced this with both my truck and my jeep. Does it lose signal for more than a minute or two? Come in and out until you break out into the open?

OP hasn't even acknowledged that he's talking about SiriusXM, much less any of the other details that could possibly help to diagnose the issue.
