This is a great idea. I’m going to Home Depot tomorrow to get an impact gun, but might use this method when tightening everything up again. Also have a torque wrench coming in tomorrow too.
You can use the same floor jack method to loosen the bolts on the lcas …….;but definitely get you a good 1/2” impact, I recommend Milwaukee….i also recommend not using setting 4 when tightening, it will snap the nut off so easy you won’t even feel it, or so I’m told….😏

No, fuck that, I know I’m not this weak. I’ve been to the gym.

I first started trying to install RC rear LCA skids. I got the shock bolt off, but could not get the control arm bolt off, no matter what I did. I tried everything, from every position, every angle, upside down, got good leverage, but could not get it off!!

Ok, I give up on that. I also have an engine oil/tranny skid to install. Let’s try the motor mounts. Same thing, no matter what I tried they would not come off!!!

So now, here I am broken and defeated, with my brand new tools from Home Depot and no skids anywhere on the Jeep. How the hell do you all get these damn bolts off?

And now my triceps are sore.

Edit: also just found a cut on my finger.
torch it , heat it

Honestly that's where having a 3/8" comes in. Use the 1/2" for taking it apart and the 3/8" to put it back together with less chance of breaking stuff. Anything a 3/8" puts on the 1/2" will easily zip off.

When I replaced my front LCA's for my lift, I discovered all of the bolts were torqued to different specs. Three I got off with a breaker bar using varying degrees of force, but one straight up refused to come loose and required an air tool.

too weak. I bought one and it doesnt cut it.

i just broke down and bought this bad mamajama. Right now if you buy this kit, you get an extra battery free. This is the poor mans version of the Milwaukee. I looked at that too but id need to invest $500 for tool, battery and charger.

i had a lug nut i was SURE was cross threaded. I used a big breaker bar and the nut was just twisting. Mechanic said his Milwaukee took it right off not problem. Thats when i decided to invest

The dewalt did that to one of the upper control arm bolts when I thought i was just snugging it up.

Yep…..there’s no warning, lol…. One thing that impressed me the most is it hammered like 3-4 times and spun the pitman arm nut off like it was finger tight….lol..

I used a breaker bar on one end supported by an axle stand and another breaker bar with a floor jack under it. I'm not a fan of using heat to remove bolts (and re-heat treat them in the process to some unknown state) unless they are going to be replaced.
Sadly no shortcuts when it comes to re-torquing the bolts. I went out and purchased a larger torque wrench.

Yeah, I used the HF 1/2" Ultra torque listed above. I have drawer full of air impact tools but the cordless today are just great. One of them I may have moved to a 1/2 breaker bar and a piece of pipe but I'm old and don't remember....LOL

There are also captive nuts that have a head that look like nuts in the recessed areas. Don't try to loosen those. Don't ask me how i know. Let us know when you get it loose so we can all celebrate.

I have an old single shot shotgun barrel that slips just right over one of my 1/2” ratchets or breaker bars. That and some heat will make things move even when air and electric impacts don’t work.
