No, fuck that, I know I’m not this weak. I’ve been to the gym.

I first started trying to install RC rear LCA skids. I got the shock bolt off, but could not get the control arm bolt off, no matter what I did. I tried everything, from every position, every angle, upside down, got good leverage, but could not get it off!!

Ok, I give up on that. I also have an engine oil/tranny skid to install. Let’s try the motor mounts. Same thing, no matter what I tried they would not come off!!!

So now, here I am broken and defeated, with my brand new tools from Home Depot and no skids anywhere on the Jeep. How the hell do you all get these damn bolts off?

And now my triceps are sore.

Edit: also just found a cut on my finger.

I am a broken down old drunk and I can do it..just need a longer breaker bar. The only ones I found that are a beetch is the lower front control arms...those are 190 ft/lbs and will give you a work out.

I use an impact to remove those. To torque them to 190 ft-lbs, I put a hockey puck on my floor jack and raise the jack to turn the handle of the torque wrench. No other way for me to do it — I just can’t get the necessary force in that particular position so close to the ground.

Take your pick. I can tell you the breaker bar has never failed me if there’s room for it. Milwaukee claims “ 1,000 ft-lbs of fastening torque and 1400 ft-lbs of nut-busting torque” You need to try different combinations of profanity sometimes as well.

Less cardio at the gym and more heavy ass weights? The dewalt impact has no problem spinning the nuts off the lcas but torqueing them to spec is some work. Most people are stronger pulling than pushing, if you're triceps are sore you were doing it wrong?
Lol, I tried pulling, pushing, kicking and screaming.

This is a great idea. I’m going to Home Depot tomorrow to get an impact gun, but might use this method when tightening everything up again. Also have a torque wrench coming in tomorrow too.

Just make sure to get a big bertha 1/2"...skip 3/8" for now and get a big nut buster. Milwaukee or DeWalt either one of them will work. Which ever one you get, focus on that ecosystem. Don't spread yourself out so you don't have to have every kind of battery. Stick to 2 or so really good batteries and try to run as many different tools as you can from them. It'll save you a lot of headache down the road. This goes for anybody in this situation. If you buy generic to start off with you'll want to kick your own ass later.

In a pinch I’ve made do the ghetto way of finding a long ass pipe that fits over my ratchet or breaker bar if it’s not enough on its own - and the cursing variations that @Terrymo brought always help, of course.

don’t ask why I had long, heavy steel pipe of just the right diameter laying around. I don’t know either, but that happens ofren in my garage.
