my guess is they did not tighten down the drag link clamp when the adjusted the steering wheel and it rotated..they are probably calling that the pitman arm because they are not used to working on solid axles
Makes sense Because when they came and told me what was wrong with it they said a piece was missing. If they pitman arm is something you don't typically change then they got that part extremely fast and fixed it. I would imagine a Infinity dealership would not just have a part like that laying around.

Gotcha, but my question is if they aligned it. Then my steering wheel went sideways a week later. When I took it back they said it was the pitman arm and replaced it then. If adjusting the drag link will fix the steering when like that and is part of the alignment could the pitman arm issue be hidden by doing the alignment?
They don’t even know what a pitman arm is. Take a look under there and see what is actually new. I’d bet it’s the drag link or tie rod and it’s loose. I wouldn’t drive it at all without getting a good look at everything.

It was a Infinity dealership. Jeep has looked at it but now they are telling me that they can't reproduce the issue. Bs
Regarding the overpass shake did it go away after a few seconds, or did you have to almost slow to a stop to get rid of it?

Sounds like they are completely full of it. Do you have a receipt?

first one is the pitman arm and second is drag ling adjuster which is what was probably the issue. probably forgot to tighten it. for the record it is really tough removing a pitman arm.

Hang on, did they redesign the steering linkage and put a ball joint on the pitman arm and a tapered hole in the drag link or am I crazy?

Oddly, she's not the only one who referenced a pitman arm replacement in the last day or two.

@Anchored626 Looks like you haven't had a chance to respond to my previous question about what dealership. I'm in the Charlotte area and can connect you with some local resources to get it running right if necessary.
Interestingly enough there really nothing to go wrong with a pitman arm. It has no moving parts. So they must be referring to the draglink which has 2 balljoint ends. Those being worn and sloppy is common.

When I replaced my drag link, I would have replaced my pitman arm if anyone had one in stock at the time. It was stuck so hard I had to put in in a hydraulic press, after pickle forking the stud right out of the socket of the oe drag link. Other than that, it’s a crash part.

I had a B!TCH of a time getting the drag link off the pitman arm!! The other end and both tie rod ends just fell right out when I loosened the nut but the drag link at the pitman arm took hours. Turned what would have been a 90 minute job, including toe alignment, into a 6 hour job. PITA!! I too was thinking about removing the pitman arm altogether.

I had to. When it finally broke loose it shot across the shop.

Did you guys try the 2 hammer trick? Works wonders on stubborn tapered studs to break them loose.

Thanks for these pictures. When I go pick it back up I will crawl under to see if I can tell which part is new.

It went away after a few seconds. When it happened I started to slow down but thankfully it went away after a few seconds. The dealership says they can't reproduce it even at high speeds. Because I was on the highway when it happened. So my husband and I are going to speak to them Tuesday.
