This may be a basic question but I am new to the Wrangler world. My question is would it be wise to get an alarm? It is obviously easy to gain entry I am just wondering if most of you have them , do not have them or recommend them. Thank you for your help.

I did not get an alarm for my Jeep. My other car, which I have been driving since 2013 also does not have an alarm. I live in a major metro area. Judging from the way people react to car alarms--they ignore them--I'm not convinced of their efficacy. Perhaps they would be useful if you were going to be close enough to hear it yourself.

Also, I find that aftermarket alarms just end up being a nightmare down the road. Everything from a draw on the battery to false alarms. Since I have a soft top, I never lock my Jeep. I knew that growing up, people would cut the windows to steal stereos (back when that was a thing). If they want to steal some napkins, a USB charging cable, a pink tiny swiss army knife and a pair of sunglasses, go ahead.

Bought mine used and it had an after-market alarm. As mentioned, they do draw a fair amount of current from the battery. My Jeep doesn’t have power locks (base sport), so it did add in ”power locks” and remote start, which is really what I used it for as I rarely turn the alarm on.

I only have what was on my Jeep at delivery.

My take. Jeeps are unique if you build it your way. It would be easier to steal another vehicle. Only sh*tbag Jeepers steal from other Jeepers. So I have a f*ck it attitude that if someone is gonna mess with my Jeep, they have already made their decision to deal with a psychopath that gave up creature comforts for a vehicle that gives its owner a shit eating grin that only rivals the smile I get when I catch someone messing with it. ?

I have had aftermarket alarms on 3 of my previous vehicles. All of them were professionally installed. All of them were a headache... lots false alarms and they eventually stop working.

Save your time and hard earned cash... lock your doors, be careful of where you park. Also, get comprehensive insurance for car theft and homeowner/renter insurance for items in your car.

i wouldn't put an aftermarket alarm in anything (for all the reasons already listed).

fortunately, my Willys came with a factory alarm.

however, lamely, it does not include the hood!
we'd need to incorporate some aftermarket device to be able to make the alarm include the hood.

My wife just got after me last night for not locking my jeep. I told her that with a soft top I would much rather pay a hundred bucks or so to replace a compressor, because that is about the most valuable thing I have in there, than $1500 - $2000 to replace a soft top after they cut it.

This, with a soft top there IS no security. If you carry anything of value add a locking “vault” either in the console or in back, and even then remember locks are only for honest folks anyway. A serious crook will break through. The best you can hope for is that, they’ll think it’s more trouble than it’s worth and go looking for an easier victim.

I just got the Willys as well 2022. So that has an alarm or was it an add on?

<snip>
keep in mind that the cargo area in the rear is effectively blocked by a closed tailgate, so even if you have *no* roof on you still have an area that can be somewhat secure if you lock it and set the (factory) alarm.
of course, it all depends on where you are; some places you want to leave the windows rolled down just so the locals don't break them on their way in to see *if* it's locked,...

a Willys comes with the factory alarm (though they don't call it that).
doesn't your monster key fob have lock buttons on it? don't you see a flashing red light on your dash when you lock the doors?
take some time and RTFM.

nope. never had one. dont plan on getting one. its not worth the headache in dealing with one. if anything i would get a rubber cobra snake and put it in the jl. that should scare the $h*t out of the lowlife that cant mind their own business.
