AEV Borah wheels on JL

They are just nylon bolts. The protection and beadlock rings come with actual hardware where as the base wheel (no rings) comes with the nylon bolts to keep the threads clean. I had them on before I upgraded to the protection rings.

Alright finally chose my final combination of wheels/tire com

Another OCD update:

Decided to give the Mickey Thompsons Baja Pro XS 35x13.5 tires a shot because of their aggressive tread and width. Still running the JL spec Borahs

1.5 inch lift

What I like about this set up is it really closed the gap between the outer edge of the bumper and inside of the tire wall and best part there is no rubbing on the LCA's even at full lock.

Just wanted to post in case anyone decided to go with the Baja Pro XS tires.

Decided my final JL/JK wheel/tire set up. And this one is for good, I promise lol
Put the JK spec Borah's back on because(in my humble opinion) I really like the 2 dr Jeeps with wheel/tire poke. Slapped on my 37 Cooper STT Pro's after reviewing 5 different tires within the last year. STT Pros were the best overall out of the KO2's, Nittos Ridge Grapplers, and Mickey Thompsons

white AEV Borah(JK spec) +4mm
1.5 inch lift

Here's an untouched up pic. Sting Gray Jeep, Onyx AEV Borah Wheels and Rings painted in Rustoleum Regal Red.

I took the rings off to touch up the paint prior to new tires next Saturday. I forgot how bland it looks with just the Onyx wheels.

I received the satin black with the onyx ring today. The onyx color matches the Jeep's granite crystal color. The satin black almost matches the Jeep's OEM wheel color. The OEM wheel is a bit more reflective.

Will post more pictures once they are mounted, hopefully within the next few days.

The wheels were split into two shipments both were supposed to arrive today. Thanks to FedEx ruining everything, they only delivered three today, and two got rescheduled. I was able to get the spare taken care of today.

Stock are 33 KO2s, new tires are 35 KO2s. They look a lot better in person.

I finally got new tires. The stock KO2s made it to 44,000 miles. They would have been OK for the street but I didn't trust it for off road any more.

I went with 315/70R17 LR C KO2s this time. I do have a 3/4" spacer lift F&R.

The spare is a little tight on the steel bumper but I think after the first rotation and some wear on the tread, it'll be fine. Any bigger and I'd need to address it I think.

I got the silver rings today and just finished installing them. I think I like them more, but I keep going back and forth. The Onyx rings are very nice, too but there is no contrast. I like the color pop with the silver rings.

I also got the black bolts from Johnsons.

This may be covered in this thread, but why aren’t we using socket cap hex head bolts? And would stainless, black, or titanium, socket caps look good? I have onyx Borah’s coming and am considering Onyx protection rings.

Ratbert: care to share any pics of any wheel rash you have wheeling like you do with no protection rings? Last summer you said it’s an extra “half a grand”; it’s almost $1000 to the penny to have AEV add them at the factory (they charge $140 labor to put them on!) I ordered them today on my build, but I think they change the look so much I may forgo them.

Is it backwards thinking to not have them, and if ever they got so bad that they looked horrible, to then add the rings to make it look better then?

This is my worst wheel. I obviously cut it too close to that rock.

Note that I just washed the Jeep a couple days ago. We live just about on the side of a mountain up a dirt road, so it doesn't stay clean.

I'm guessing that it might look worse if the rings were there since they protrude even further out.

Is having them better than not in the long term? No clue.
