I have a 2023 4XE an I am thinking about a 2 month rv trip next year. Me, my girlfriend and two dogs. The 4XE has a 3,500 tow capacity and most trailers are over that weight (especially when loaded). I could go Gladiator, but I just prefer Wranglers. My local dealer claims that some Rubicons with the tow package come with a Class 3 hitch and can tow 5,000. However, it appears that this is not definitive based on searching this forum and other sites.

You didn't mention if you were looking to buy, or rent. Buying a lite, or ultra lite trailer is pricy, but it's yours to go whenever without scheduling it ahead of time. And they do have them under that 3500 pound limit. You can rent trailers, but, they gotta be scheduled in advance. And you can find lite, a little tougher to nail down ultra lite trailers cause that's mostly what folks can pull around. Good luck, smart move to start planning in advance.

I've never seen more than 3,500 lbs in any spec so what you pst for the 2024 is surprising. I would want to know what they changed to increase the capacity by more than a third. Don't forget, you will have gear to add to the base weight.

I have the 5000lb capacity and I haven’t pushed it but it seems to do well with the skis.

The 2024 JLU Rubicons have a new full float rear axle and a tow capacity of 5000lbs. 2023 and prior are limited to 3500lbs.
While that's true, there are aftermarket hitches like Draw Tite rated for 4500 and 675 tongue (class 3). Right or wrong, it is better than factory. I have towed about 3700 lbs in the past without issue.

I’ve never seen an OEM tow package on a JL that wasn’t a Class II (3,500 max). You’d have to explore other trailer hitch receiver options to get up to 5,000.

While you can easily slap a class 3 hitch on to get a hitch that can tow 5,000 lbs that still does not get past the fact that the Jeep is deemed to only tow 3,500 lbs. as the manufacturer put the 3,500 lbs rating on it you will be towing with an improperly equipped vehicle if you go beyond that. Consequences? The Jeep will likely tow it without issue but if there is an incident and the authorities do their job properly, then you might be found liable.

Chances are small there will be an issue and it’s a decision you have to make. This comes down to your choice. The longer wheelbase wilth the JLU will help in towing but there is still a limit to what you can tow. Trailer length and frontal area play a factor in stability as does weight and proper weight distribution.

Question for the OP, where will the 2 month trip take you? What type of terrain will you be tackling? Have you considered going with an RV and towing the Jeep?

I had asked in a another thread about this since, in the 2024 manual as shown above and I just got a 2024 "standard" Rubicon and shows 5k but look above that at the hitch. Need the class III and on my delivery build sheet break out it was equipped with a Class II hitch so limited to 3500.
Can it do 5K? Evidently so now, but is it equipped from the factory to do it? No and you very likely will not get answers from the dealers about it. Mine just said, yeah it can do it but was...huh? when I mentioned what the owners manual showed about the hitch and couldn't get any other answers. Another guy said he asked a dealer and was told they couldn't offer any answers due to liability issues.

TFL guys did this but notice the set up. Looks like a jeep event but didn't mention anything about the hitch classification needed.

Even though it’s a 2” receiver, I think it’s still considered a Class II because of how small the actual part is and because of the way it attaches to the frame. It just slides on and attaches with a few bolts.

Typically, the guy walking in off the street knows more about these than any salesman at the dealer. There are 2 hitches on etrailer listed as 5000 lb capacity. Also note they fit 2020-2024 with no disclaimer about manufacturer rating. Overseas, the Wrangler has towed 5500 lbs since 2019.
