Yeah, my replacements have started flaking as well. I don't know if it's the high heat underhood? I've never had a hood get so hot as I have this 392. It wouldn't surprise me if we had hood paint issues way down the road.

But for now, I'm letting my covers be while I add some goodies to the exterior. I don't know if distinction applied sells full replacement covers, but that seems to be the best bet if they will hold up from the heat cycling.
Ran across a few other similar reports, so yeah, sounds like they didn't ever make them any more durable over the years.

I contacted Distinction Applied about a set of covers earlier today. They don't carry full replacements in stock, so you have to ship them your existing covers for paint work. They seem very responsive and their stuff looks nice so I'm trying to decide if I want to pony up for a nice set of custom painted from them, or just get a set of overlay decals and call it a day.

For anyone coming back to the thread, I ended up trying a set of Bronze Metallic overlay decals from Reflective Concepts. The decals were an impressively good fit.

Got to spend some time under the hood this weekend and finish a good under hood detail (I'm a car detailing nut. 😁) along with working on the engine covers.

For as much of, and as easily as, the OEM Gold had flaked off to date, I was surprised the effort it took to get the rest of the gold off. I ended up carefully wet-sanding the rest of the stripe and numeral areas to get all of the gold off before applying the decals. I'm super happy with how it came out and kinda glad I didn't splurge on the painted ones now! Some pics:
