Who wants to daily drive a boring vehicle?

If you are fortunate enough to have the means to daily drive a fun vehicle, do not pass on the opportunity.

Sucky day at work ---> drive fun vehicle home ---> have a great evening with the girlfriend, family, etc.

Sucky day at work ---> drive boring vehicle home ---> guaranteed fight

Take your pick.
fuckin accurate man

Trying to be a responsible adult can be difficult. When I was young and newly married, buying and owning a noisy, capable V8 machine was not a reality with kids and...life. Now with an empty nest and the blessing of a good job, that means I have options. Daily dilemma, Cowboy Cadillac (Ram 2500 Laramie diesel - 19MPG) or 392? That is the question of the day. When it's sunny and warm, I'll pick the 392 every time! Even considered selling the truck, but that is not a popular answer with the wife. The 392 is easily the stupidest financial decision I have ever made. If I was truly worried about the cost of fueling this smile wagon, I bought the wrong vehicle. Step-dad passed away from pancreatic cancer. His answer even before he got sick was, "life is short. If you can afford it, get it." Not to be morbid, but you will have no regrets at your funeral! Drive that thing!

The only drawback is in town mileage typically low 11’s, a playful foot can get it into the 9’s.
I don’t care, it’s why I got it.
11 mpg is insanity unless you are just driving around your neighborhood.
For me that would be a fill up every 3-4 days, and, I’m retired.

I only have 600 miles on mine, so still a young’un.

I am bouncing around 12.5 to 13.5 in my daily commute that has me in 25 miles of stop - go and brief bursts to highway speeds.

This includes the occasional outburst of jubilant acceleration.

I would have to work hard to dip into the 11s and very hard to get into single digits. At that point I would need to join the Reddit group AITAH . . .

I have read it is a great all around driver for trips long and short. But I wanted to aske if anyone that has one has experienced drawbacks, problems, other? I did a search on this but it was not conclusive, Thanks.
I had my 392 for 6 months. At the time I also had a 2018 JLU Rubi w/2.0 turbo. I found myself driving the 2.0 most of the time; meanwhile I was putting some considerable $s into the 392 and it was basically sitting idle. Sure, when I drove it I enjoyed it while ignoring other drivers that tried to race me, or ā€˜beat me to the light’. So after some soul searching I traded my 392 and my 2018 Rubi for a 2025 Rubi with the same specs as the 2018. I haven’t regretted it although I kind of miss the 392 from time to time. Off-roading w/the 392 was great, in town not so much with heavier traffic and clowns on the road. So, I’m happy with my new 2025 Rubi. It hits the sweet spot for me although I’m still waiting for the MPG benefit (so far it is on par with the 392) but I only have 1400 miles on it. And yes I’ve used my new Rubi off-road and it does the job with less overhead just fine; just what you’d expect from a Jeep. Just my $.02 worth.

Yes, my typical in town grocery, pharmacy, post office, hardware, etc errands. The GC gets just slightly better in town. When I go to the nearly adjoining larger town for the big box, and others not here the average goes into the low 12’s. Just here it takes a max effort to hit 12.
Also retired, no more work commute.

no harm other than the dent in the wallet for fuel

Jeep Wrangler JL 392 as a daily driver? {filename}
Meh- it’s just the difference, 14-16 Hwy,
a comparable V6 or T-4 XR’s mpg at 65-80 ? Especially the upper end from reports, for/nearly 200 more HP….. I’ll take it ! 😃

Back in the ā€œgood old daysā€ my 69 GTX got 6 hwy- 3 city on minimum 100 octane. My 392 Wrangler is a regular economy vehicle in comparison. šŸ˜šŸ
Edit- heck, my L-79 Chevy powered 63’s mpg was about the same as the V8 Wrangler’s. …
I’m used to it. šŸ™ƒ

Assuming you have driven jeeps before so you know how they ride on the street. I love my jeep but would not want it as a daily driver - my ford raptor fills that role. But if I did daily a wrangler, the 392 would be it.

Down sides:

1.) Premium fuel

2.) 12.5 - 13 MPG mixed driving

3.) Loud exhaust even in quite mode

4.) Cost (see items 1 & 2 + purchase price)

Upsides:

That lovely melody only a 392 can produce while clawing the ground with all 4 wheels putting an endless smile on your face.

As far as a daily driver, other than items 1 - 4 it is no different than any other JL, just faster.
It's still a slug and slower than a number of other 4x4s. Congrats on spending $80,000 just to demonstrate how stupid that is.

Comparisons please. Cost, NA vs Boosted, off road capabilities ? A Whipple is available for ~ $10K plus install for 650 (CARB approved) to 705 Hp.
