My current thought is that keeping the oil clean and not allowing varnish to build may be what prevents a lifter issue which fails the rocker/cam. You can do that by keeping OCI short, using an oil with good detergents, and keeping oil temperatures in check.
This is the best rate for Super Car and it is sold by a 3rd party on Walmart. Rare oil

Real quick, if oil A flows faster than oil B at -40°, does it mean that oil A will also flow faster than oil B at 40°?
It would depend on the viscosity at that temp. So there are 3 measurements that are standard....Viscosity at 40 degrees (C), viscosity at 100 degrees (C) and pour point, which tells you the lowest temp at which it will flow. I have not compared that way, but I would not be surprised if an oil could be a little thicker at 100 degrees and still have a lower pour point. It will be interesting to see.

PAO, which is not so common in synthetic oils these days, has a crazy ability to flow at super cold temps, so I think you could probably find a 0w20 oil that is thinner at 100 degrees that doesn´t have as low a pour point as M1 EP 0w20. Other weights may differ. Some of the M1 EP'oils in other weights don´t list any PAO or very little, like less than 10%. M1 EP 0w20 was reduced but still has 30%. Of course there can be other base oil components that can flow at incredibly low temps and group III oils are still impressive, if not as low as PAO.

Is this marketing?

Not at all.

The Motor Oil Geek on YouTube, Lake Speed, Jr., who has a degree in fluid dynamics (oil) and runs an analysis lab, did a test that showed Mobil 1 Truck and SUV had a higher resistance to oxidation, which means breakdown. it is a tough oil. I actually have thought about switching from M1 EP over to this. I haven´t decided yet, but right now it would be my #2 choice, very close to #1.

My personal opinion is that it is better than most oils out there. I used to think it was just BS until I saw that test. I think he used the 5w30 or 5w20 version in that test and it was against other oils, including ¨regluar" Mobil 1, which is outstanding.

When I run out of my current M1 0w40 Euro, I´m going to try to find this for my 2007 Corvette LS2. It is a very similar formula to Mobil 1 ESP 0w40. It might even be the same. M1 Supercar is the factory fill for the C8 Corvette and GM certified it backward compatible with all Vettes.

The inside of my engine did not have a lick of varnish or discoloration when I did the cam last month. 70k on the clock. I've switch to M1 ESP for the higher zinc. Hopefully that will help with the cam wear but I have my doubts.

I'm hoping the change they made to the lifters is effective in eliminating the lifter issue. My current 3.6 is a 2024 from a Gladiator, which should have all the latest revisions. So, I guess I now have a Wradiator. But, yes, I'm of the belief that it can't hurt to have some more higher ZDDP. But like you, I don't think that's the issue.

Right now 🫣

Those temperatures were common on my 3.6 just slow poking around. They are not alarming at that level by any means. But, they didn't stay there when any load activity was applied. A RPM Extreme fan controller brought them down by about 20F across the board in all situations.

The irony is deep with a 70,000 mile engine needing a camshaft, also using the best oil out there....

For $2 more you can get the Ultra 0w20, it is much thicker, has more Moly, has boatloads of Boron, it is more shear resistant and carries 750,000 mile and 20 year warranty(Not sure how that works). Ultra is the best Pennzoil. Right now Amazon is selling 3 × 5 quart jugs for only $72 🤩
