Like everything else, we all have our takes on things. Your point is understandable..That's good for trapping the ferrous debris. But you can't see it each OCI like the tip of a mag plug. To me, at least, a mag plug is a "gauge" to tell you when things aren't normal.
To me, I would rather have a large powerful magnet in the mix that collects and holds/isolates ferrous debris and does not let it go through things over and over and over.
A "mag plug" grabs/holds/Isolates very little in comparison to say a gun magnet..
A mag plug can be cross threaded, magnet becomes weak or maxed out on grabbing ferrous material...
Anyway, a magnet in general in the mix is a positive thing.
Not having a oil drain plug that has to be removed over and over, over the years without wear and cross threading, without over tightening , etc. to me is what is important and why I suggest/encourage use of an oil drain valve and a gun magnet versus any oil drain plug, regardless if it is magnetic or not.
