It can be, but I think the biggest factor is the caster. Jeep uses the same control arms for every model and the ride heights vary by quite a lot. That means so does the caster. Jeep might say 4⁰of caster is within spec... because they don't want to use different arms on different models. The 2024 4xe sahara rental we had in Hawaii didn't wander in the slightest but it also sat pretty low and rolled on basically car tires. It cornered really well too. Can the stock steering be improved? Absolutely. So can the stock suspension, tires, powertrain, etc.
My wife had a brand new 2020 Sahara Altitude that wandered horribly. It had an aluminum box, but we only had it a couple months. I agree that caster is the biggest problem now. I did the Mopar lift arms on my 2024 Willys, but have not on my Rubi X, because it drives fine. I will eventually do something to increase caster, upgrade steering components and probably an Apex booster, ram and cooler.

The 2020 had an aluminum box? I thought they went to steel after the 2019s? Our 2019 JLUR didn't wander and it had the aluminum box. That one we kept stock the longest (1 year and 26k miles) but then went to 37s and lift. The aluminum box was still holding up at 63k on 38s.

I assume the wandering.
I assume death wobble.

Mine has neither wandering nor death wobble. It does, however, drive like it has a solid front axle.

Yeah, it may have been an early 2020 I don't know. I started researching after we bought it what I needed to do to fix it and it had the Aluminum box. My Northridge cart had a trackbar, frame side trackbar bracket and sector shaft brace in it when the Wife got the Range Rover. I sold it to CarMax a few weeks later.

For anyone complaining about the steering in a JL, they obviously have never driven a lifted JK, TJ, YJ, or CJ.
I've been wheeling with older Jeeps lots. On washboard roads the rest of the group periodically has to stop to wait for them to catch up. It's brutal for them.

Then again, if there are IFS-based vehicles in the group then they're doing the same thing waiting for us. That's a trade-off that I'm willing to take.

So with the digital dash, cooled or vented seats, and all the other stupid electronic gizmos, how much are you willing to pay for a vehicle with "poor" steering behavior? The steering is the way it is because of the solid front axle and narrow profile. IT IS NOT WIDE ENOUGH TO FIT IN THE LANE GROOVES!!! IT IS GOING TO WANDER!!! Anybody that wants all that electronic crap and no wandering can go buy a Bronco or 4runner! Those of us that understand why it does these things don't want to pay $80K for a Wrangler Sport. And with more junk added, (YES, JUNK), it is going to be way out of price range for nearly EVERYBODY!

The steering is why I came back to daily driving a Wrangler. Had a Wrangler, no problems. Started driving a Lexus, fell asleep at the wheel twice. Got a new Wrangler, no problems.

I put my WRX passenger side into the concrete divider because I feel asleep in traffic LOL. The steering in the Wrangler bothers me not one bit. All the electronics bothers me. It's a Jeep not a damn spaceship. And that's kinda sad coming from an EE.

I've only seen one person that can fall asleep anywhere, anytime in the blink of an eye that wasn't military. It seems to be a standard issue skill when you serve.
Plus the WRX

Hey Jeep! Here’s a wish list for the 2027 Wrangler, but sure too late for 2027 production.
  • Fix the steering. This is a known complaint and a huge aftermarket offering, but solutions voids Jeeps warranty. Come on Jeep, you know this is an issue that can be easily fixed for production. Step it up for 2027. Don’t wait for the J70.
  • 5,000 lbs tow package on 35’s
    • Adjustable rear shocks
    • Class III Hitch
  • Upgrade steering
  • While cooled seats may not be an option, how about strong fan ventilated seats (top and bottom front seats) with perforated leather.
  • Better insulated Sky OneTouch. Mostly for thermal.
  • Digital dash
  • Factory retractable rock slider steps that are made to protect, like Rock Slide Engineering. The 2027 Bronco is getting retractable steps, but they don’t appear to be “rock sliders” from the looks of spy shots. I may be wrong.
@Jeepjunkie is this you? Did you return? Fishing for likes?
