2024 Rubicon Tax Deduction

I am wondering if the Rubicon X with the XR package qualifies for the 179 tax deduction as a 6000 pound vehicle. Has anyone looked into this? I thought I had read that the XR puts it over the limit but I can't find where I saw that.

I seriously doubt it. My '22 JLUR diesel isn't much over 6k with skids, metal bumpers, winch, 37s, sliders, and a massive roof rack.

There is no way its 6k. My TRX is barely at 6k with a supercharged V8, winch and heavy metal bumpers.

The builder on the Jeep website indicates that adding the Xtreme Recon package to a JLUR gives it a GVWR of 6250 lbs, which would put it in the heavy category for a Section 179 deduction. The builder isn't so clear on the Rubicon X so you may have to do some digging to confirm the GVWR.

Oh, you're talking GVWR and not actual weight. You'd need to find a VIN for a similar Wrangler and look at the build sheet.

Mine is definitely over 6k pounds. That was before I added Goose Gear drawers.

I realized that OP, however, is talking GVWR and not actual weight. GVWR on mine is 6,100.

These diesels are heavy! Note that I went with aluminum skids to try to reduce that a bit. Also note that these diesels aren't hindered much by that weight.

I didn't notice it was a diesel. I am gas 3.6.

GVWR is NOT how much the vehicle weighs. It is how much the vehicle CAN weigh rolling down the road (including cargo/payload). That said, it looks like it would qualify if there is documentation from Jeep to support the GVWR. It DOES say that on the website when ordering...

When I checked back in 2022, only the 4xe classified - but essentially if the door jamb sticker says GVWR of 6k lbs or more you’re technically good, IIRC.

Don’t take this as tax or accounting adivce by any means though ?

I couldn’t find one that got my CPA’s ok unfortunately ??‍

in hindsight I should’ve pushed, but I also was enamored with the idea of electric local driving back then
