Hey guys,
how much can a 2024 jeep jlu willys trim tow? I read my manual it says 3500 but on the side of my door it say GVWR/PNBV: 5675 LB / 2575 KG.
Wondering what it is about the Rubicon that gets it the higher weight rating than the recent Willys -- the specs in the above table for the Rubicon are also true of the 2024+ Willys, so it must be something else?

Completely different rear suspension.According to Jeep. Gladiator with the same semi-floating axle is rated up toe 7500 lbs. Doesn't really pass the sniff test.
Agreed. Jeep says the JLUR got an uprated tow capacity due to the axle, not due to a revised suspension. That is illogical. For my own sanity, I looked up the axle shaft bearing for both the Wrangler and the Gladiator. Same part #. The point I am getting at is the chassis and drivetrain were all designed for a 5k lb tow capacity, Jeep just derated them state side vs overseas.Completely different rear suspension.
There's an actual rating system and calculation for maximum trailer weight relative to minimally acceptable towing performance produced by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE, J2807).Agreed. I agree those numbers are just recommendations. I gotta put it in 4 low and lock the diffs to get up the boat ramp though. If you want to play by the rules, I would follow this screenshot from Google AI:

However if you want to talk about what you can realistically get away with...
That depends more on what you're towing, and where you're towing it to. If you're planning on going up a mountain in Colorado, I would stay under whatever the rating on your 2024 Willys is.
However I have personally pulled double+ (~8,000 lbs) the weight my '21 JLU EcoDiesel is rated for, 400 mi across flat ass Texas, with zero issues. About 4 hours of driving one way with outside temps around 98°f. The engine saw a max temperature around 232°f, and that was with the AC running and the engine fan on full blast. We only stopped once halfway so I could top off the fuel tank, but I never turned off the engine the whole way. My mileage ate shit, but beyond that wasn't too bad.
Or that the rear suspension of the Gladiator is truck-based?The reason the Gladiator is different is that the tow rating test involves acceleration, braking, cornering and (most importantly) cooling system tests. Or marketing wanted the Gladiator to be higher.
