Has anyone had any reliability issues with the 2.0 turbo 4 cyl?
I'm looking to buy a JLU and find several for sale with that engine.
Thanks
Nope, I've owned 4 JLU's and 1 JL with it and all have performed beautifully. I just did a 2,300 mile round trip to Florida in my 2019 JLUR and it ran perfectly (Currently has 42k on the odometer).

We had our JLUR loaded down with 3 people and luggage & gear shoe-horned in every nook and cranny... Even at 78mph on the interstate I was getting around 17mpg. If I kept it under 65mph, I was getting over 19mpg.

Keep in mind that the Bronco with the 2.3t is pushing 300hp on premium whereas the Wrangler is pushing 270hp. That's a 60hp advantage. The Bronco also has a 10 speed auto vs the Wrangler's 8 sp. I'm guessing with those bigger tires, the Bronco is also running lower factory gears which should give it better acceleration 0-60. The Wrangler is probably running the base 3.43 rear end. Looks like a sport model with base tires. Considering all that, plus some youtube dyno vids I've seen, the Wrangler 2.0t is underrated at the factory.
The 2.0T Jeep is definitely under rated from the factory. It spanks the Broncos 2.3 with 300hp. I have it in my Xtreme Recon and with the 4.56 gears it's a Beast. Plenty of power. So far I'm averaging about 20.4 mpg. And that's around town/countryside and going up and down a mountain every day to my house.

All though my Jeeps is pretty new so far I'm more then happy with the 2.0T ?

Most people don't use 93 octain or change the oil as frequently as they should in these high strung Turbo 4 DI engines. That's when they run into some issues. Keep it clean and you'll have no problems. That's literally the same for all DI engines.

After 60k miles, this 2.0t still impresses me. Our build is HEAVY. 5530lbs with just me in it and 1/2 a tank of fuel. After swapping spark plugs and adjusting caster yesterday I was out on some remote country roads for some test driving. 0-60 still averages low to mid 7’s with a best of 7.02. I thought about dropping the spare, recovery gear, tools, and hilift jack off at the house, shedding 500-600lbs and cracking in to the 6’s but decided it was more trouble than it’s worth. 7 flat on 38’s in a 5500lb rig from a 4 cylinder is still very impressive. My 5.7 hemi ram rebel only weighs about 100lbs more than the Jeep and on 35’s is barely quicker with an advertised 170hp advantage. I’d say this thing is way under rated from the factory. Playing around with an online 0-60 calculator, you can see the estimated horsepower you’d need to achieve the same numbers. I even switched the variables to make it as reasonable as possible as my runs were in 2wd. I’d hardly call 38” MT‘s a performance tire in the context of 0-60 either. Our 8 speed is great, but it’s no dual clutch gearbox. Changing the drive to rwd and the trans to auto and the estimate says 345hp to hit the same 7.01. Is this 2.0t really putting out 330-345hp? Who knows. Is it a rocket compared to every other Jeep I’ve owned including a v8 wj ? Absolutely. Is it going to hang with a 392? Nope unless it's a standing mile (speed limiter set to 126mph with the tune).

As the majority here has said, the 2.0T 4cyl have actually been reliable- I have the JLUR 2.0 and have abused it-from trails to roads and let's say it gets a little warm in Arizona and no overheating-mpg is about 19-20, the only issue that I don't like is at first start up it sounds like I'm running a sewing machine. But I would advise you to drive all those that you have a question with and since it's up to you and your money get what YOU want. Keep the Jeep wave going.

The only issue i have had is a coolant leak from a plastic hose at 28k. Right now i have 31k and its its almost 2 yrs old. The only complaints I have is it does sound like a sewing machine once a while and I have to be careful when off-roading. When that turbo hits boost it will take off.

2021 Willy's Sport Wrangler 2.0. Very very snappy performance. I live in NE WA and in the zero temps in winter it starts right up and is blowing warm air in no more than two minutes......I'm impressed and like I said very snappy -when you step on it it goes and goes fast! Great off roading...best 4WD vehicle I've ever had and I've had 'em all including a '65 Scout. Compared to the V-6 Jeep Wrangler this thing kicks ass!!!

The biggest issue I’ve heard impacts 2021 and some 2022 models where FCA did not apply lock tight to several coolant bolts leading to catastrophic engine overheating. I was at my dealer getting an oil change several days ago…said he had two awaiting engine replacements because of this issue. A 10 cent omission that costs $20,000 to resolve…. I guess a recall has been issued according to my SA.

My observation (personally just mine I'm sure), is that if you purchased a JL with the 2.0L Turbo, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you purchased any other engine (especially the 392), the 2.0L is one step higher than a Prius, but just marginally.

Only you can collectively weigh it's pros and cons for your own driving desires.

For most, the turbo boost is fun. This by far outweighs the inherent and ubiquitous turbo lag.
Sounds like you've never driven a JL with the turbo.

My viewpoint is how much is the turbo really used for the true purpose of the Wrangler; off-road. I know that I'm always trying to measure how fast I can get up to 60mph on some high-altitude mountain trail. What is Black Bear Pass if nothing but a drag strip?
You've obviously never wheeled a Rubicon with a 2.0 T. I've got 37's on my JLR with stock gears. With the Rubicon 4:1 xfer case, I crawl vertically. I burn half the gas as the JK's in my club. Much of that is the turbo sipping gas in low range and some of that is I use MSS (Manual Stop/Start) when we stop to pick the line. I figure if the factory has ESS (which never comes on unless I turn the heat way up when it's 80 degrees or hotter), I can manually shut it down.

Better milage to the trail, way better milage on the trail.

I am 34 days into engine replacement on 2.0l. It was a blown head gasket on cylinder 2 at 2486 miles. Engine has been replace but brakes failed during testing. I am waiting a vacuum pump. If all goes well on repairs, then it will be at 40 days. If there is anything else that breaks, it will have been in the shop longer than I owned it. We had to cancel all family vacations and trips because that is what we bought it for. Oh yeah, the dealership loaner can’t live the state, and smells like….. Also getting made fun of at Jeep club events because your “New Jeep” is in the shop is not funny after the first joke but everyone thinks they are comedian. Is 2.0l reliable? For other owners yes… for me no… I sure I am the in minority but if you get a dud… This is what it is like.

How would they know you left the state unless they installed a tracker? If I had a loner, or turo car, I'd install a tracker.

If you had my luck, would you do anything outside the stated rules? I too exhausted from fighting with Jeep to get the engine. The First engine was sent to different dealership because it was not expedited buy Jeep cares. I am tired of this ordeal and paying on a Jeep I don’t have for 2nd month. So, nope just following the rules.

You have my empathy, Theo. The engine was replaced on my 1995 YJ just a few months after I had bought it new. When similar symptoms reappeared a little while later, I lost all faith in the vehicle and sold it back to Jeep.

It still stings a bit to see owners enjoying their YJ-era Wranglers. Mine was a dud, and I just had to take it on the chin and move on.
