Have owned both the 3.6 and the 2.0 in-line turbo. Mileage is MUCH better with the 2.0. Drove from Miami to Breckenridge and back in winter; several Miami-Asheville trips every year and I love this 2.0.

Granted the 3.6 was a 2013 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara with knobbier tires - it never got better than 13 mpg. I traded it for a 2021 of the same make and model - and slimmer tires also made this a terrific choice. My mph is between 15-20 depending on city traffic. Highway mph is close to 24 ....and better if I drop the hammer on long, boring vacant wide roads.

It's my daily driver. Absolutely a fan!

Was in the shop at local dealer talking to one of my pals who is a tech, had a 20 Rubicon2.0 in, seems the cheap ass plasting fitting on the cooling circuits break at the "V" and piss all the coolant out. Amazed at all the plumbing on the 2.0s. The customer must of drove it and when the fitting failed and all the coolant drained didtn stop soon enough, so at 20K getting a new head gasket. Note he replaced one of the set of hoses and the plastic fitting which failed but pressure tested and it didnt hold. Has 5 hours into it stripping it down so far.

Said the fuel line for the high pressure fuel pump, major PITA to get at the back of the head. Also took close look at the air to water intercooler, disappionted to see it to is half plastic. His son has BMWs and said this looks like the same BS where all the plastic connectors fail. He jsut did some plastic pump on his sons Beamer.

Anyone else here had any of the coolant fittings fail. He said they stress right in the V and crack. He has done a few where they only were leaking but hadnt failed completely.

On my 2.0T? No. On my Honda Ridgeline? Yes. That failure was walked back to age-related fatigue and failure of a plastic part in the cooling system, and the use of dissimilar metals on cooling system fittings. The four figure repair bill was thus completely avoidable if just a bit more expense was, uh, expended for higher quality, robust parts.

I know weight savings matters as it concerns meeting fuel economy targets, but some related economies are false and shouldn't ever see the light of day.

As a system, things will only be a strong as the weakest link. That said, I don’t know if the 3.6 has even one connection (even a heater hose line) like that. If it does, there goes coolant. If the plastic in the connection is a common issue, let’s hope an improved part number/vendor is an option now or later.

I understand the OEMs in Europe are forced to use recylced plastic per the EU rules, as I recall some of the millenials invaded certain OEMs and said wouldnt it be nice if we used plant based materials in the insulation for wiring and the mice made a field day of it, Honda comes to mind. Tehy used soy and the customer paid dearly for destroyed engine bay harnesses. My wifes coworker paid over 1500$ to have her accord fixed, but hey she was green even though it cost her a lot of green to repair.

The 3.6 does have some, but no where near as many as the 2.0 since the 2.0 has 3 cooling circuits, air to water intercooler etc Get under your jeep and check it. A real rats nest.

I doubt they will ever design any better part for an existing one. Unless the supplier was making a percentage of bad ones and they change suppliers.

Best you could hope for is a aftermarket vendor tools up and makes replacement metal ones in a kit, anyone with a half a brain when they start doing hoses should jump on something like that if exists in the future.

Funny part he said the set of hoses and fitting were in stock at the local depot, so I guess they must be using a few to have replacements on 2 yr old jeeps.

Oh I’ve been all up in there. The eTorque is only nice because the start stop is required and it’s better than using the starter to restart. Faster, smoother. Other than that, it’s not worth it…. Definitely. These plastic clips are everywhere in every car these days. The non eTorque 3.6 in the Wrangler has gone away in an automatic so if it’s the best out there, hold onto it I guess.

I have the opposite results. 2019 JLU with Altitude package and 3.6 non etorque, and 2021 JLUR 20 non torque. The 3.6 just got 24.3 on a 400 mile trip mixed interstate and state hwys, 65-80 mph. I usually get 21 or less on long trips in the 2.0. The 2.0 really drops MPG at 80 mph. Mixed highway and city the 3.6 is still 2-4 mpg higher than the 2.0.

There are so many variables in mpg, and I believe mine is because of tire sizes/tread pattern and gearing.

Manual calculations here or using the dashboard mpg calcs? I‘ve had the two exact same vehicles as you, well the 2019 was JLUR, but I never sniffed at 24 on the 3.6. I dId have a lift and 37’s, a winch, armor etc. I think averaged around 13-14 mpg. I just drove 9 hours today in the 2.0, running mid-70’s most of the time and averaged 17. On the 2.0 I have a lift and 37’s, a winch etc. YMMV I guess (literally).

The Rubicon axles (weight) and gearing are a factor for a 2.0 Rubicon to get worse mpg than a 3.6.

Having both engines with eTorque, my stock Rubicon only gets 1 mpg (maybe) better than my Rubicon suspension w 1/2” spacer, Rubicon fenders, 4.56 gear, lighter axle, Sahara on 73 lbs 295/70/18 AT’s.

I drive like an old man most times. It’s a Jeep lol.

Same. Coming from sports and muscle cars I’ve reduced the risks of tickets.

I fixed my autocorrect’s errors too btw. So much for easy. Stupid autocorrect. lol

Just wanted to update this to the thread. 1,000 miles after new engine install, the engine is leaking coolant from oil cooler. I confirmed with the technician, the replacement engine includes the oil cooler. So that is two defective 2.0l engines from the factory in a row. I would not buy another 2.0l. Heck I would not buy a JL at this point unless you can buy two or have a spare Jeep. 55 days and counting of the 112 days I have owned this Jeep it has been in the shop over engine problems. I am passed jaded.

Don’t do it!!! Okay, the 2.0L is the least reliable engine in the history of Jeep. It constantly breaks down, it overheats all the time, it misfires frequently, it is a ticking time bomb. Go buy a ford escort.
Ford Festiva imho.
