I have had issues with the auxiliary battery draining the main battery so I found some tips on how to bypass the auxiliary battery while leaving it in place. What I read was that if you remove the F42 fuse and disconnect the correct negative terminal to the auxiliary battery, it disables the auto stop-start feature and takes the auxiliary battery out of the loop. However...

I disconnected the auxiliary battery negative terminal and removed the F42 fuse. And was still getting the light on the dash until I disconnected all of the negative terminals from the main battery for about 7 or 8 minutes. Then the light on the dash remained off.

I now have a new issue even after disconnecting the negative from the auxiliary battery and roping it off and removing the fuse. And yes, I've double, triple checked that I've removed the correct fuse. The auto start stop continues to shut down the engine after doing all of this. I thought removing that fuse would shut down that process, but it has not ...when I come to a red light, the car will still do the auto stop ...any thoughts?

@keyjoes

ESS will still work as usual when you do the Aux battery bypass. This is normal behavior.

ESS is not disabled when you do an Aux battery bypass!

Removing the fuse and negative ground removes the auxiliary battery from the start/stop only. The start/stop is now running off the main battery. The only way to stop that is to buy a product that does eliminate the feature or continue to push the button on the dash.

The Tazer JL Mini remembers the state of the ESS disable button for you. I haven't bypassed the parasite battery but it might not be a problem since the Tazer keeps ESS disabled for me.

I do carry a booster pack just in case ?

OK thanks for such a quick response...so it's working as designed.
You’ll need to either invest in a tazer, a start-stop eliminator or hit the ESS disable button every time. As mentioned all you did was take the aux battery out of the equation. Is it ok for the main to be used as the start stop? I would say it’s ok here and there but I wouldn’t use it on a daily basis for fear of running the battery down.

An adjunct that in essence presses the ESS button for you (Tazer, SmartStopStart) does that and only/merely that. Your Aux battery is in parallel with the Main battery regardless so...

I would not install the Stop Start Eliminator offering if you gave it to me for free.

Those that want an offering that does the ESS button push for them should go with the original, known to never hiccup, SmartStopStart offering at $99.00... OR, go with a Tazer JL if they want all the other features a Tazer JL provides.

FYI: Most forum members over the years have chosen the original, 1st to Market, @SmartStopStart.com versus knock offs of same..

Purchase the Auto Stop Eliminator.Fantastic product...you can leave the Auto Start/Stop on or turn it off just by pushing the button.I’m on my third vehicle with one installed and never an issue with any of them

There are other ways to disable ESS. You can search youtube and maybe do general internet searches. I believe this do leave the ESS warning light on the dash if that matters to you. I bought a used 2018 and ESS never worked so I bypassed the little battery and never worried about it further. I don't know what did it and I don't care enough to troubleshoot it. I do have the warning light on the dash.
