I normally drive at 70 to 75 on the local freeways but on long drives I try to keep it down a little, we are driving flying bricks

Like Z was saying how you drive will be the biggest factor. Have you recalibrated for the larger tires? Any idea what the wheels and tires weigh? You'd probably benefit from a gearing change too if you haven't done that yet.
I have a tazer mini. No idea when I will have the money for 4.88s.

37x13.50r20 Nitto Mud Grappler = 87.66 lbs
20x9 Fuel Blitz Wheel = 42 lbs

I'm a pentastar that wandered in here, that's basically the same mileage I get on my 38s which is interesting. I'd recommend gearing up to 5.13s instead of 4.88s. I haven't done it yet but I've seen a lot of people with our tire sizes regret going 4.88s instead.

My 3.6 didn’t see any decrease at all when I upgraded from 33s to 35s. I was averaging 14 before and I’m still averaging 14.

Yeah I don't remember ever really getting our listed mileage but I can get as low as 10-11 driving around town. It sucks having to get gas every 2 hours of driving, it turns a 12 hour roadtrip into 14-15 hours with all the gas stops. I really wish I had the diesel but nobody thought Jeep would ever make one when I ordered in 2017. :(

If 6 gas stops add 2-3 hours to your drive time, you're doing it wrong. Even at 13 mpg you have a 270mile range, that's gas every 3 hours at 90mph. 4 fuel stops turns that 12 hour drive in to 12:45 minutes in my experience road tripping our JL. Couple the fact that I'm usually 5-10mph over the speed limit and I still usually beat waze estimate by an hour on 12+ hour trips with fuel stops.

I luck out and always get some super slow pump and have to refill beef jerky and pee, so it's at least 15 minute stops. But yeah, my math wasn't exact there :) My last trip definitely had an extra 1:30-2hrs but I was driving in an insane windstorm / haboob in the desert. It was pretty scary in the milk box.

Just got back from a 4500 mile road trip. Did a little bit of trails, but mostly 2 lane and interstates.
2018 2.0T 2.5” Gamechanger that’s actually 3.5”, 35x12.5x17 load range E, OEM 4:10 axle ratio. 2 adults, 2 kids and ALL the crap we had to bring and new crap we had to buy…

Highest was 21 mpg, basically come down the mtns in eastern CO and the plains east of there, IIRC that was 65 mph zone.
Worst was 11 mpg. I forget where that was, but it was headed west and it was very windy.

Those are 2 outliers, so throw those out. I didn’t figure out an overall average for the trip, but most tanks were in the 13-15mpg range. Lower on interstate and higher on 2 lanes obviously.

For me, wind affects mpg probably more than anything else. Speed is right there also. A huge drop seems to occur around the 65 mph mark.

Didn’t keep track of $$$ spent on fuel. Used 91 octane, highest paid per gallon was $5.79. I dont recall the cheapest paid per gallon, must have been about $4.79.

You must have one of those new smart Jeeps that automatically adjusts to larger tires. That option wasn’t available on the 2021 models.

There's too many variables. If you drive less aggressive with a tire that's only 2" bigger you can easily see the same mileage. Conversely I think most drive more aggressively with their big, bad new tires and it just amplifies the perceived loss. It's a tall brick, built for off roading. I accept the fact that the mileage won't be good. So long as it's not single digit bad, I'll keep wheeling and road tripping this thing like it was built and bought for.

2022 Willys Xtreme Recon 2022 Ford Bronco
2021 JLUR, hard top. Plastic bumpers. 35” spare.

tires -37x13.50r20 Nitto Mud Grapplers.

Mostly city driving, commute to work.

I expected a decrease from the 37s, but 13.2 is pretty bad.

ive considered an intake and exhaust, maybe a tuner and gears in the future.
Thoughts??
You have to regear! There's a reason why the Xtreme Recon package comes with 4.56s from the factory.

Not to get off topic but this is why I went with the Willys XR over the standard Rubicon. When I added things up it was cheaper to just add electronic Eaton lockers then all the other (off road) stuff the standard Rubicon would need for my build the way I wanted it for the money. There's a lot of stuff that comes with the XR package that people forget about. It's not just a lift and tires.

People say that you will void the warranty of the Willys by adding lockers. Well you also void the warranty by adding aftermarket gears to the standard Rubicon just to move up in tire size. So it's a wash. No wrong answer. There's just more then one way to skin a cat now in the Jeep world with the new XR package. ?

Yeah, now I have to decide between 4.88 or 5.13 and…. Saving up for it. I have $45 so far. Only $1705 to go.
