2021 Wrangler Sport S - 2-door - Manual
2021 JLUR, hard top. Plastic bumpers. 35” spare.

tires -37x13.50r20 Nitto Mud Grapplers.

Mostly city driving, commute to work.

I expected a decrease from the 37s, but 13.2 is pretty bad.

ive considered an intake and exhaust, maybe a tuner and gears in the future.
Thoughts??
i may be comparing apples and oranges here - but im desperately awaiting my JL order as im currently in a turbo-Jeep (Renegade 1.4 turbo manual transmission) and im not only on my 2nd transmission (replaced at 45k miles by dealer) but also on the 2nd engine (replaced at 65k miles by dealer) and now the turbo is leaking oil like a sieve! Ill plead the 5th on mods but im just telling you that FCA turbos from my experience are super fragile! again....i may be comparing apples and oranges but its my story

Omg!! I hope so,

not is my understanding that this 2.0 engine is not new, as it has been in other vehicles for some time. As for their turbos, I have no idea.

This thread makes me glad I got a diesel. Guys are getting 24mpg on stock gears with 37’s all day long on those motors.

Looks like the ole “you’ll never make that motor cost up in fuel savings” wives tale may not hold up so well with 37’s or larger. At 10mpg +/- that’s a huge delta between the two motors.

At 13.2 mpg it would take 3,787.87 gallons of gas to drive 50,000 miles.

At 24 mpg it would only take 2,083.33 gallons of diesel to go the same 50k

Average Oregon Gas Price is $2.59
Average Oregon Diesel Price is $3.27

$2.59 x 3,787.87 = $9,810.58 Gas Cost

$3.27 x 2,083.33 = $6,812.49 Diesel Cost

Fuel Savings in 50k miles = $2,998.09

So depending on how long you want to keep your Jeep you may want to consider trading in for the diesel motor if MPG with 37’s is a concern.
This didn't age very well with the current diesel prices.

Fast forward to June 7, 2022 and lets do the math again.

Average Oregon Gas Price is $5.46
Average Oregon Diesel Price is $6.02

$5.46 x 3,787.87 = $20,681.77 Gas Cost

$6.02 x 2,083.33 = $12,541.65 Diesel Cost

Fuel Savings in 50k miles = $8,140.12

You’ve got it cheap up in Oregon.

Diesel prices in Cali are outrageous

Oh hell no, I’d never live in Oregon or California. Just using the previous poster’s same example.

Pick up a set of used Sport wheels and tires for city driving. There are two sets on CraigsList now. I'm picking up a set for safety inspections.

I'm getting 21.5 in my 2021 JLR 2.0 turb with stock wheels/tires. I'll let you know in a month what it drops to when I add my 37" KO2s.

r20 Perfect mall crawler wheel but not good for air downs.

Realistically it's probably closer to 2.6-3k in savings. Something real wrong if your averaging 13.2 mpg with the 2.0.

I average 18.2 with 3.5" lift, 37" K02s on beadlocks.

I am running mud grapplers and 20” wheels (a little heavier)

IDK….

Any ideas?

I have heard of others reporting similar though

It all depends on how you drive. If you drive aggressively in a lifted brick on heavy 37's your mpg will be crap regardless of engine choice. I know ecodiesel owners with heavy 37's, beadlocks, and heavy overlanding set ups that roll 80mph+ like I do and they average 15-16mpg. Simple things make a massive difference. On our recent cross country road trip in our heavy JLU on 38's with the 2.0t our best tank was 20.8 mpg and our worst was 12mpg. Those were on the same day, all freeway driving. The difference? Pushing 83mph in to a headwind with a lot of up hill sections at 6-7k foot elevations across New Mexico resulted in 12mpg. Setting the adaptive cruise control for minimum following distance and tucking in behind a big rig at 75mph resulted in 20.8mpg. It's more how you drive than what you drive. We tend to drive aggressively and average 15-16 in average use. Could we hypermile around and get 20+? Probably, but time is money. Lighter tires help. A regear can help, unless you go full crawler gears like we did. The 5.38's killed a good 2mpg average. The tune helped gain 1-2mpg average. There's only so much you can do.

Like Z was saying how you drive will be the biggest factor. Have you recalibrated for the larger tires? Any idea what the wheels and tires weigh? You'd probably benefit from a gearing change too if you haven't done that yet.

With my 2.0T my mileage was worse running stock 4.10 gears on 35s than it is now with 4,88 gears on 37 KM3s, Now I ma getting around 17 in town and up to 20 on the hwy if I keep it at 65-67

How do you not get run over on the freeway at 65? Here in Northern California, everyone is doing 75-80mph minimum. Unless your passing through a city the posted speed limit is 70. I just accept the fact that I’ll buy a lot of gas with this hobby.
