Hi all. 2018 wrangler jlu Rubicon, bought it end of March. Started using android auto on galaxy note 9, worked great. All of a sudden, stopped working. The USB port that I have the phone connected to, said unrecognized device. After trying a few things, took it to dealer, they had to reset the radio to make it work. A week later, same thing happened. Went back to dealer, they said my phone it not compatible. When I insisted that it was working, they said it is a bad cable. Tried new cable, same issue. The following day, android auto started working again. Today, stopped working. Has anyone run into this issue and is there a fix for it ?

I have an iPhone, but I have noticed that the USB in the center console doesn't work all the time. It may also be a connection issue related to having Bluetooth and Android Auto connected at the same time, but I don't know if this is accurate or not.

Android Auto stopped working for me today also. From what I can tell, it happened when I tried to charge my wireless headphone pod (from the dash) while my Pixel 3 was connected to the USB in the center console.

Went to the "Projections" tab in Uconnect and noticed the Pixel 3 was greyed out... after some fidlling, I deleted the phone from the list. That was a mistake. Anyway, I tied restarting the UConnect, restarted the phone, cleared the AA cache on my phone, re-paired the BT to the phone... nothing. Got frustrated and went to an appointment.

Upon return after 3hrs, Uconnect prompted me to finish AA setup on the phone. And I was up and running again.

Leads me to believe that my issue might be a confused USB hub. The wireless headphones have a capability to store music, so it has a filesystem... which was probably being scanned by Uconnect when I plugged the phone in. Anyway, it seemed like it was hung up looking for the headphones and couldn't connect to the phone. And the USB hub finally reset when it was powered down long enough. I thought I read that the USB continues to charge devices for an hour after the engine is shutdown. The long appointment probably helped reset whatever was hung up.

Anyway, I'll avoid multiple USB-Media type devices attached to the Uconnect. Probably use my old 12v USB charger to isolate device if just charging.

I hate to say this as a fix, because it shouldn't come down to it and I still think there's issues with the USB plugs in the Jeep but I upgraded phones twice in the year I've owned my Jeep (samsung s7 to s8 to s10) and I had HELL with my S7, decent amount of issues with my S8 (but less than s7) and now have basically zero issues with my S10. I also have a friend with a 2015 GMC with AA and he had a super old phone and complained about tons of problems. He upgraded to a new Pixel last month and he said it's been flawless.

I think the phones power (cpu/mem/gpu) play a big part in it but I could be completely wrong and it's just a software update fixing things, like Android 6 vs 9, etc.

At this point what I do to mitigate the problem, no idea if it actually works or not;

1. Wait for uconnect to fully boot before plugging phone in
2. Don't plug ANYTHING else into the front USB ports. I've tried 3 times to charge my ecig while using android auto and each time it breaks my connection for days. Then randomly it just works again.

I haven't done the ecig charge thing in half a year, I'm kind of tempted to try it with my s10 but I really don't want to lose AA for a week again.

Also I've bought probably 20 USB and USBc cables to fix this. I've found that using USBC to USBC is my sweet spot and I had way less problems using that than USBb to C.

Thanks all for the tips. I will try usbc to usbc and see what happens. My phone is a note 9, fairly new, less than a year old.

I purchased my JL Wrangler in May of 2018 and have had problems ever since with Android Auto. It's hit or miss. My daily driver is a Pixel 3 XL. I have also used a Galaxy s10 and an iPhone XS Max continuously for more than a week to test other devices out. I've used the ports on the front, back, and glove compartment and still have the same issue. This is with Android Auto and CarPlay. I also used OEM cables and a few different aftermarket cables and still had issues.

My issues are:
1. Intermittently works
2. When it does start up it just stops working
3. Sometimes Google (always listening) fails
4. Siri fails more times than not
5. When stopped unplug/replug doesn't always work
6. Freezes infotainment unit. Can't control anything from touchscreen but the controls on the steering wheel work fine changing stations and adjusting volume.

It's frustrating that this hasn't been fixed. Look I understand new product, more issues but it's been a year and multiple people have complained about it. This is obviously a software issue why can't you just release an OTA update and save all of our lives?

P.S. - .... and yes, the person that suggested using USB-C to USB-C is on to something because it doesn't glitch as often. I get around 2 to 3 days error free usage from that setup. When I use USB-B to USB-C every other vehicle start (multiple times a day) I have some sort of issue.

Hmm... sucks that you're having all the issues with multiple phone. Worse multiple types of phones. Your #6 seems to point to your head unit as the root cause. Are you connecting just the phone and no other USB devices?

My Pixel 3 forgets the Uconnect from bluetooth maybe twice a month (still trying to figure out a pattern or cause), but other than that is been pretty solid. AA works everything I connect the phone to the center console port. I did have an issue when plugging in a set of wireless earphones to "charge"... learned never to do that again.

I got my 2019 JLUR back in May. At the time I had the Note 8 and used AA without issue up until I got my Note 10 Plus. I now experience intermittent issues. It seems to me that it is some sort of power draw issue when the phone is first plugged in. I think the Uconnect system detects a power spike and disables the USB port that the phone is plugged into. It will then reset that USB port after the system has been shut down and restarted. I've come to this hypothesis because I can usually move from one USB port to another (center counsel to dash or vise versa) and get it to work without turning everything off and back on again. After shutting everything down and turning back on, I can move back to the previous USB port and it works again. Much like swozey mentioned above, I have learned to wait to plug my phone in until well after the Uconnect system has booted. This typically works, but isn't quite 100%.

Bringing this back. Just bought a 2020 JLU and have a pixel 3 xl. When I connect it says "device not supported" and then stops charging. At that point it repeats so I can't even plug in to charge.

Really wanted to use Android Auto.

Any suggestions? Soooo frustrating...

Thanks
