Does anyone know what these straps are for? They are too short to tie down my soft top.

See JLUR Red thread here: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...-red-wrangler-jl-club.1752/page-12#post-89087

The velcro ties down the sunrider portion of the soft top when flipped back, it goes around the metal frames.

The bungees have snaps on them that attach above your rear window, on the inside, so you can roll it up and slide the bungees around it to hold in place

A-ha, thanx for the input. I'm pretty sure I will never drive in sunrider mode. I should add that I have the premium soft top - I don't think I'll ever roll up the plastic windows. I had them laid out flat yesterday on our dining room table. I checked them out this morning, and I don't see how you could roll them up without creasing and/or damaging the plastic.

Here's some shots I posted on the Firecracker Red thread:

I don't have a JL [yet] but it just rolls up loosely. I mean, it's not damage proof, but I did it to my JK several times without issue. It's a convenient way to open up the back when you have nowhere to put the window.

The sunrider is also a nice feature, especially with the JL update. You can be sitting in traffic and just fling it back without getting out of the Jeep. Nice when you're on your way home from work and it's warmed up enough to open it. The velcro straps aren't 100% necessary, but good to prevent bouncing around, especially at highway speeds. Also helps keep it together if/when you take the entire soft top off.

I’ve ordered dual tops for my Sahara. How huge is the soft top box? Will my rear seats be folded down? Need to make sure I don’t bring any extra cargo (ie: 3 kids) when picking up my Jeep. I actually prefer picking it up solo cause I’m selfish like that...but they’ll beg once they find out it’s in!

Yes the rear seats are folded down to fit the extremely large "crate" they are packaging the soft top in. I was at a dealer and he showed me the box. It will not fit in the back of an Unlimited without the seats being folded down.

Solo pick up it is as you wanted and you have a good reason to tell everyone else they cannot come. :)

TY! And now I have the perfect excuse to get my first solo ride!

Excellent - thanx for the pics. I didn't have a JK, but from what I understand the soft top was completely re-designed for the JL. So, while the quick/fast sunrider option may have been a useful trick with the JK, flipping the top all the way back on the JL is literally just a few second operation.

This, of course, assumes you have the rear plastic window panels off. So, I can imagine a situation where the top was fully up, and you just want a quick flip for some sunlight. However, once the plastic windows are off, flipping the entire top back takes milli-seconds.

With all this being said, no way can the new premium soft top plastic windows roll up as shown in the second photo. They are extremely stiff; I messed around a little bit once they were off to see how far they could flex. Maybe, maybe 5-10 degrees on either side. Any further, and you could either break/bend the hard plastic "frame" or damage the plastic windows themselves.

Right now, I have them stacked inside our house like this. I'm guessing any storage bag is going to have to allow them to be stacked and stored.

Hmmmm, nice to see this.

Yes, it was completely redesigned, but still similar. I didn't know about the hard plastic "frame." All I can assume now is they're throwing those bungees in there because they still have leftovers from the JKs. Once they're out/the JKs aren't being made, they probably disappear. That, or they've found another purpose, do they separate at all? Looks like they might.

Exactly. I walked out to our garage and located the two male attach points (for the bungee cords) on the underside of the rear top frame. I guess there's two possibilities: one, the regular, standard soft top may still be able to be rolled up, and/or two, throwing in the tie-downs & bungee cords is a hold-over from the JK parts list, and they just add them whenever anyone orders a soft top.

OTOH, it's weird because the new soft top frame still has the male attach points. I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps the regular soft top may still roll up? Or, the specs for the new JL top - when they went out to the OEM supplier - still called for the divets. That is, maybe they weren't thinking that far ahead in terms of the how the new top would operate and have rigid sides when the RFPs went out months/years ago.

If this is the case, then the bungee cords and attach points might be like a human appendix. There's still remnants from prior models, but once they get around to evaluating what they actually have, they may eliminate the attachments and/or cords. Or, they keep the attach points and someone offers an after-market thin, quick roll-up window to take along - sort of like an emergency space blanket.

Straps for the soft top
I drove around with the top down yesterday, and while the folded top was pretty stable, today I decided to use a tie down to keep it secure. Here are two photos of my quick & dirty approach. I assume a tonneau cover will come out at some point, but the ease of use of getting the top down, and the appeal of just taking off is pretty compelling.
