I got just the Alpha HD Tire Carrier without the hinge & tailgate reinforcement part. I’m really happy with it.

I’m running 35 x 11.5 on the stock rims. The TF Alpha HD kit allows the tire to sit low enough and with the light relocation part I can see much better out the back.

I will probably add on either the TerraFlex hinge reinforcement or save a few bucks and get the Rugged Ridge HD Hinge Replacement version which also works with the TerraFlex Alpha HD or stock tire carrier.

.......

Cons:
- The Teraflex setup is missing a "stopper hinge". Even with the upgraded Teraflex detent assembly, there is a lot of weight on the stock strap when the tailgate is opened all the way (the strap that contains the camera and backup wiring). I'm still looking for a solution to this problem.
If you ever find a solution to this, please pass it along. It's about the only thing that bugs me about this setup. If I open it up the whole way, the detent assembly will pop out. So I have to open it only around 80% of the way. Not too big of a deal but something I have to remember each time I open the tailgate.

Same, let me know if you find something. It's quite a design short coming.
I've only had it for a month so I might reach out to Teraflex support for ideas. They were super helpful during my install when I had questions. Even sent out a replacement piece that I had lost (the small plastic piece that protects the camera).

Anyone have the 8-lug version and figure out how to mount a plate to the spare?

I have the TerraFlex Alpha HD carrier morphed with the CavFab rear license plate relocation and the Artec license plate lights. Kind of a hybrid but I have used it twice now and it works great.
Sorry for the poor resolution photo.

TerraFlex makes an adapter plate for their tailgate holder to carry a 8x6.5 wheel. It is made to bolt right up to their carrier. I have the Rugged Ridge and didn’t want to buy another carrier so I purchased the adapter plate and slightly modified it to work with the Rugged Ridge one. It works perfect with my 38” tire on a Raceline beadlock.

sweet. So, what’s holding your 3rd brake light in the pic, and can you put a licence plate on it without blocking the camera?

The TerraFlex plate comes with the stud size for the new larger 8lug wheels. I used one of my old studs from the original Rugged Ridge wheel holder and pressed it into the top lug hole on the TerraFlex plate. The reason I did that is because the lug nuts for the plate holder had two threaded bolts to secure it to the wheel. The bracket for the plate holder was originally secured by two of these lug nuts. In order to make the TerraFlex work with the Rugged Ridge bracket I had to flip it upside down so only one lug was on top instead of two. To make the plate holder work I put the plate on it and took a measurement so it would clear the backup cam. Then I cut off the two original brackets and welded one in the center to secure it to the wheel. One bolt has been more than strong enough to hold the bracket and plate.

How’s the backup camera view with the plate? Looks close.
I have the Rugged Ridge hinge and the Teraflex carrier so this helps thanks.

The plate is totally out of the way. The only thing that slightly interferes is the protective cover for the camera. I cut it off of the Rugged Ridge plate and welded it to the TerraFlex one. I could have taken just a bit more off of it. If you have the Terraflex Carrier the conversion should be a piece of cake. You might not even need to modify your plate holder because it looks like a direct bolt on for your carrier.

Thank you. Actually Teraflex does not make a license plate relocation that works with their 8 lug mount weirdly enough. Only the 5 lug has a version but this helps.

I think I’m gonna do the Motobilt plate mount and try to sandwich the backing plate between the Alpha and the TF 8x6.5 lug conversion plate. Using a 0mm offset wheel… hopefully there’s enough room. Fingers crossed.

@TeraFlex doesn't sell a longer camera housing do they? Assuming not, anyone here figure out a way to extend the camera tube out more? I recently installed this, and while it's better than the Rubicon tire carrier, I'd say the wheel still takes up more space in my view than I'd like.

Holy thread resurrection!
The carrier itself slides in and out to accommodate different offset wheels. What you're describing sounds like your offsets are putting too much wheel within camera view. There is not fix for that that I am aware of.
