Learned the breaking point of stock trussed D44 front axle!

I just broke my stock newly trussed axle in two! (1st run) right at the front axle disconnect! taking the down hill face of a dune too fast.:( both wheels facing upwards!

Luckily, I didnt break or bend anything else!
So, now im replacing the axle with a 1/2 DOM Terraflex unit swapping all my RCV /locker/ gears into it! While at it upgrading the Alum. knuckles to the Mohavie Iron ones:)

wondering if I should do BJ's as well? other parts? HMM

Looks like those plug welds had failed. Or the fad broke in half?

:( sorry this happened to you.

On a lighter note, I am a big supporter of BJ's... other parts sounds interesting too... wait...

You built (basically) a barrel-vault or an arched bridge. Sorta looks like your “bridge abutments” on either side of the stream moved outwards under pressure, no? The truss actually looks intact, even now.

Thank you for sharing. I learned some stuff (or at least I think I did) from your detailed pics.

Sorry it happened.

Exactly truss over the pumpkin doesn't do anything to enforce the long tube ..where they always seem to break.

Yea I would be interested in a video of about .5428 seconds before the break lol

Also some more pictures of the axle once it gets out of the truck
