I have a 26 rubicon x 4 door.

I was satisfied with just an AEV 2.5” and 37’s but I want 38’s.

I also like the metalcloak gamechanger lift considerably more than the AEV, but if I also don’t feel it’s necessary if I’m just going to 37’s. I feel like if I go the metalcloak route I’m better off going 4.5” and going to 38’s.

why not 38’s??????
Toyo Open Country RT Pros are available in a 38x11.50r17. They are actually cheaper than both of the other tires being discussed.

Honestly, if you wanna make things super simple - 2.5" lift from Metalcloak, Clayton, JKS, Teraflex, Rock Krawler, etc and a set of 37x12.50s. It's a fairly standard, ho-hum path that many have taken before, so it's well trodden ground, and it's exceptionally capable. JLs run fairly low slung compared to older Jeeps, so you don't really start seeing benefits of additional lift - IMO anyway - until you're pushing 4.5"+ and 40s+.

A decent 2.5"ish lift and 37s sets you up for a good time at Windrock. Take the $700 you'd save over going to 38s and get some skids.
That’s where I started. Originally just AEV and 37, then looked at Clayton and then rode in and looked at metalcloak and now I’m drinking their coolaid like the cool kids. Dangerous brand, they make some crazy nice stuff.

Wait really? The baja boss AT's are probably the closest to a unanimously well liked tire on the forum. Seems like every week there's a new thread praising them.
Actually I’ve been told that by a few very built jeep owners.
This... I'll take a personal conversation with someone local to me, doing what I intend to do, over forum feedback all day long. I love keyboard warriors as much as the next guy, but it's hard to beat experience. Good on you for actually reaching out to your local folks, OP.

I'd definitely steer folks towards a more complete kit than AEV's. To my knowledge none of their kits correct front end axle alignment with even so much as a trackbar bracket to recenter the axle.

Metalcloak and Clayton both make good kits. Metalcloak tends to be more flex focused, Clayton more load carrying capacity focused. Neither one is a poor choice.

The only answer for why not 38s is because 40s exist.

But yeah, I'm running 38s on my driveway project.

Honestly Jeeps scare me. The cost to lift and modify can and usually is less than that of 3/4-1 ton similar but the part that scares is how much can be done and the amount of parts availability. This is a rzr replacement and just my parts list currently is getting overboard. These things are Barbie dolls. If you can think of something chances are someone already makes that part. Until I started looking at metalcloak and 38’s or 40’s my cost was considerably lower.
I ran Windrock, Stoney Lonesome, Uwharrie, Hawk Pride, Land between the Lakes and a ton of random dirt roads in the NC mountains on stock Rubicon suspension, belly/lca/shock skids and 35s. Theres no reason to start lifting a jeep if it really scares you that much. If you want a lift because you are concerned stick with a 2.5" lift with adjustable lower control arms, and at minimum track bar relocation brackets from the main brands, Rock Krawler/Clayton/JKS/Metalcloak and some 37s and you will go anywhere youre going to want to go. 38s are a waste of money when 37s and 40s exist unless youre ok running cheap rubber.

Thinking "M/Ts" are manly is another silly point here. If thats your concern go 4.5" of lift 44s and Tons and be a real man I guess.

No lift required, no driveshaft, steering, centering, shock issues. Will fit 37’s on a stock Rubi, with the factory 1.5” lift and 35’s

note to self, don’t ask Yokramer questions and don’t jab at him. Check!

It scares me because I know me, I am the head of unnecessary modifications and extremely impulsive. I’d like to go ham with this thing but I’m tiptoeing for the first time in my adult life as I’m not sure I want to keep a jeep. It’s a blast to drive and I like it so far, at least the first three weeks I’ve owned one.

and your right, MT’s are a terrible representation of manliness, I should have just hit you with my purse and called you an AT tire sissy. I’ve had a few vehicles on 44’s, I’m also the same guy that owns a diesel to pull an aluminum tandem trailer hauling sxs’s, overkill is part of the fun. If I only bought what I need to get something done I’d need two purses to carry my money.

Ahh shit im getting tired of this. Why am I always so late to the threads. Reading the first page, again only to see there are three more pages... smh.

I found it odd OP said he hasn't heard anything good about BB AT. I haven't heard anything negative about those tires. Id put that AT tire at the top.

As for 38s, go for it! If MT is what you want, why not? As long as you know it's Fooking heavy, wide and MT. Also take a look at KM3 39s, Milestar Pat 38. There are some choices, doesn't have to be Nittos.

If this has been said in the pages I haven't read, my bad lol

If thats the reason it scares you go drive the thing, put some lower control arm skids and shock skids on it and take it to Windrock. See how it drives wheel it and then throw money at it. You keep going on and on about what you dont want to do and then also worried about 38s and a lift. And I mean if you really have had all you say you do then why are you asking us plebs on the jeep forum that clearly dont have the vast amount of experience of your lordship.

Let’s just take the word scared out of the equation. Let’s replace it with excited because there are a million options. I frequent windrock regularly just in SXS’s. I’m looking forward to getting this jeep up there.

Plebs, that’s funny. I don’t have any experience in the jeep world and was looking for opinions. Christ you need to relax a bit, stop making this personal
