“Revision: im looking for responses from folks that have done 38’s on stock d44 with 456 gears and a 3.5-4.5” kit? Regrets ets etc????? Do you wish you had just gone 37’s or something else?”

I have a 26 rubicon x 4 door.

I was satisfied with just an AEV 2.5” and 37’s but I want 38’s.

I also like the metalcloak gamechanger lift considerably more than the AEV, but if I also don’t feel it’s necessary if I’m just going to 37’s. I feel like if I go the metalcloak route I’m better off going 4.5” and going to 38’s.

why not 38’s??????

38's work great and we run them on a lot of the jeeps. We have run them on 2.5 and 3.5" kits too.

I was thinking a 3.5 or a 4.5 gamechanger, just the Fox shocks, not the black or 6packs.

even the AEV dual sport with 8100’s to me is a lot just to get 37’s.

What’s wrong with nitto trail grappler 38’s? That what i was planning to buy.
You can get a BBAT in a 37 for far cheaper. That extra .5 of clearance isnt worth $730.

3.5 with the Silvers would be my go it on that. The silvers are effectively our build of a Fox 2.0 with better dial in for our coils.

On the 24+ 4.5" kits can be an issue because of the front drive shaft spinning full time since they got rid of the FAD.

I have not heard anything good about the Baja boss at’s.

I don’t care for ridge grapplers, I alway run either toyo MT or nitto trail grappler mt.

Wait really? The baja boss AT's are probably the closest to a unanimously well liked tire on the forum. Seems like every week there's a new thread praising them.

I'm in the same boat, been running 37's for a few years now and wanting 38's for my next set.
The problem isn't the size, it's the availability and price. There's slim pickings to choose from in 38", you often can't get exactly what you want and have to settle for a load rating you didn't want, and they often cost $100-200 more, each, than the 37" or 40" equivalent.

I made my problem even worse by owning 18" wheels... if you have 17's then you have a few more options, but still not a lot.

We're here building jeeps...... Lets face it.... Financial responsibility is none of our strong points.

Theres a difference between building a Jeep for a hobby of throwing it at rocks and willfully ignoring every post on the forum saying nothing but good things about the BBAT because you run Nittos on your bro trucks 🤷‍♂️

I think the BB AT are probably the best of the bunch for aggressive ATs at the moment, but gotta watch the sidewalls a bit. MT's had sidewall issues over the course of the current BB tire generation, in terms of being easier than you'd expect for weight and tire class to cut. 99% of people probably going to be fine, but is a thing to watch out for with them for harder wheeling - they DO separate out their X and XS tires into a separate line for a reason.

Run a spare and bring some side wall patches with you. It will still be cheaper to get the BBAT and the Discount life time replacements than 38s for .5" at most extra clearance. If you want a bigger tire just go to 40s.
