A search of Amazon for TPMS yields sets that typically include only 4 TPMS sensors.

Is there an issue with installing one in the spare?

The Wrangler JL, leaves the factory with a TPMS Sensor in each wheel to include the spare.

As for purchasing TPMS.... I only buy them from https://www.tpmsbargains.com/
Fresh stock, Quick to Ship. Good prices.... and Terrific Customer Service that has your back so to speak.

And a major plus is the principle is a JL owner and forum member here.

Generally it is because there are very few cars, trucks or vans that put their spare into a normal rotation like Jeep owners do. Most just sit until needed as an actual spare so the TPMS goes into "sleep mode" and does not need to be changed when the other 4 do so that is the reason for sets of 4. Hope that helps.

You can use up to 10 on the Tireminder system.
you can put the sensor on any tire.
I see no use to put one on the spare.
thsi sytem displays temperature and pressure.
it will alert of a slow leak, a fast leak, or high temperature
i have the Tireminder Sytem for when I pull my Jeep behind my RV.
Its really the best for the $$
You can buy one with 4, 6,8,10 sensors.
extra sensors are $75 each
they are battery powered and has replaceable batteries
I bought the 4. I hard wired the relay inside my Jeep's engine compartment because my RV is 43 ft. also, added a hidden switch inside under the dash to turn on / off the relay. The signal is excellent and the display unit lasts about 10 hours on one charge.

A word about those chynese sensors on Amazon. I’ve used them on a project vehicle. Had to buy two sets as each set came with one dead unit in the package. And they weren’t the cheapest by any means, I picked some that sold in volume and got good reviews.

They were STILL far less expensive than OEM or top tier vendors. But a PITA to fiddle around with do-overs and returns.

Maybe they are sold in sets of 4 because most Spare tires are not full size tires. In most cars and many jeeps, like the patriot, the spare is just a small donut used to get you off the road

I just picked up a set of oem TPMS from www.allmoparparts.com. They arrived quickly and were about $45 less than aftermarket tpms from another vendor.
