From a bad steering box, bad brake lines, loose fuses/relays, junk steering dampener, unpredictable ESS and battery headaches, getting stranded due to an “FPMC Open / Lost Communication” issue (still in the shop), I don’t rate my Jeep very high on the “reliable/high quality“ scale.

If it were a mall crawler, I’d be pissed.

Because it takes me to great places and provides endless ways to modify it, it’s one of the best vehicles I’ve owned. Yeah, it has its issues but considering where I take it and what it has to deal with, I’m pretty sure it’d say I have my own issues as well if it could talk…..

And none of those vehicles above the Jeep get treated like a Jeep. You can find Jeeps that are 25 years old with 300,000 miles on them still being wheeled hard. If those vehicles listed above the Jeep had been through what my Jeep has been through they would be in the junk yard.
I have always thought this. if a vehicle rolls through the woods, get's beat to crap by people that don't know how to wheel and god knows what else... the vehicle could be prone to breakage that a Prius wouldn't have. Did that make the vehicle unrealiable in comparison to the Prius??? I don't know

This is my first Jeep after 20 years of Subarus.. .call me in 10 years. I'll let you know

I agree - 2.5 years is nothing. That’s why I am so disappointed about the numerous issues I have with my JL in 2.5 years of ownership.
2.5 years is nothing for GM and Toyota. That's not the case for brands like those built by FCA (and probably Stellantis now too).

I thought that most people who had never owned a Jeep product were aware that Jeep is not massively popular because of its quality. I know my wife and I were very aware when we purchased our first Jeep product - we bought it because we wanted to eschew the "responsible" and "reliable" choice in favor of selecting the "awesome" choice for once. So far we're happy with that decision.

Thing is that JLs that have never seen dirt don't seem to fare any better than ones that hit the trails regularly. We're not talking about broken axles/diffs and damaged suspension here...we're talking about infotainment system failures, locker sensor failures, battery failures, connector failures...etc. Not really off-road equipment.

My experience with Subaru was, so far at least, much worse than my experience with Jeep.

CR is a liberal rag, however, it's nice that Wrangler is one step above a Mercedes-Benz in their "opinion".

It's amazing to me any car manufacturer could do worse than Jeep.

Here's a great example (for me):

On my Wrangler, the driveshaft began making a clunk when shifting between forward gears and reverse.

New ones on the lot didn't do that.

Jeep replaced it. Three months later, clunk.

I made them replace it again.

Eventually I had them replace it four times, and when the fourth started the same I got sick of paying for a rental car on my dime for two days every time (one day to "diagnose," one to replace.)

If a service manager ever tells me they "all do it" I make them this simple offer: I will pick a random new Jeep on your lot, and if it does the same thing I will never complain about the issue again; if it doesn't you will swap my vehicle for that one for free.

None has ever believed in their "they all do it" statement enough to take me up on the offer.

Did that make it unreliable in terms of leaving me stranded the way the Stop/Start systems excel at? No.

Does that make it unreliable? Yes, anything that requires a trip to the dealer does.

Then there are the several clock springs I went through when my entire instrument panel including all gauges would go dead every six to eight months…

In total at least two days at the dealership service garage every month for the entire time I owned it.

No lemon law because no single defect was responsible, it was always something new and never anything long enough to rack up "continuous" days out of service.

To me, reliability is "I don't have to take this back to the dealership garage except for maintenance."
Despite what your post suggests, you haven't owned a Wrangler since the late 1990s. You've made it clear you wouldn't own one again after the 1997 TJ was done with it's warranty. How you could say "I don't know how anyone could be worse than Jeep", when you literally haven't owned one in decades, is mindboggling.

Your experience has zero correlation to the JL or even the JK.

Been driving my '17 Renegade Trailhawk for 47,000 miles w/o a hiccup and enjoying the decent offroad capability and fuel mileage. Of course it's not as capable as my '21 Wrangler, but it's a much better vehicle for road trips. Handles great in traffic/city driving, very smooth on the highway and zero maintenance headaches so far.

Also, my JL has the 2.0T and I really like that motor so far. Only 11,000 miles on it, though.
How many miles do you have on it now and have you had any issues with your acceleration?

Have you changed your differential fluid front and rear? If so, did you do it yourself? I want to do my own, but want to know what’s the best Gear Oil to use for best lubrication and performance.

This is typical Consumer Report. They can’t wait to hate on the Wrangler about everything and yet still haven’t figured out why it still sells so well and has one of the highest resale values. They never, ever, consider its use compared to SUVs that never leave pavement.
As far as I’m concerned CR has proven it has zero credibility …

CR is just another possible source. When I'm looking for reviews on a product, I'll seek multiple sources since you never know who is shoving money in their pockets. Example: CR receives grants from the Ford Foundation (started in 1936 by Edsel and Henry Ford) and affiliate programs (click on a production with CR that takes you to Amazon, CR gets paid).

CR should never be a source for anything automobile-related. They are an appliance-rating organization that gets paid to do so. So unless you view your vehicle as an appliance, they have nothing for you.

CR does a terrible job with auto reviews because of the narrow criteria used for their performance benchmarks. Of course the Wrangler does poorly because it wasn’t designed for fuel efficiency, a cushy ride, or great handling. No merit is given for off road prowess.

That said, their reliability ratings have merit because it’s based on survey reporting from owners. The Wrangler rated more trouble-prone than most vehicles. Unfortunately that has been my personal experience.

A survey is only as good as the sector of people they choose to use info from. It’s funny how JD Power surveys are quite different.
As a matter of fact the Wrangler rated higher in quality and reliability then the Kia that CR put ahead of them.
