I wave at every jeep but sometimes I forget which vehicle I'm driving. It takes a few speed bumps to wake me up.

My boss has a nice Jeep. Lift, wheels, and all the fluff including an angry grill. He loves the grill. I asked him to go wheeling with me this weekend. SMORR in Missouri opens this weekend. He doesn't want to cause he is scared he might hurt something. Typical angry grill pavement princess. What's the point in having all that crap on a Jeep you won't even take on easy trails?

Just know there are guys that buy custom guns that never shoot them.

I have an angry grill, first thing in my cart when I went to pick her up. Along with bumpers and a few other things. I embraced some of the culture. I wave at all jeeps. I think it’s pretty cool. I’m learning to wheel , I’ve been off-roading a few times and I love all of it. It’s cool. Other than the angry grill hate it’s been mostly positive. Like 99 percent positive seems like. I have 35’s on 20’s and I still wheel. Exposing my son and nephew to it as I never had anyone show me anything all my hobbies are self taught.

Exactly my point, Tony. Like the gal in my office referenced earlier, nobody taught you about jeeps, so you have no way of knowing that plasti-grills, headlight eyelashes, and 20” rims don’t belong on jeeps.

You do you, and this community will be a great resource for you — but don’t throw away any of the parts you removed to install the plasti-grill. You may eventually come to appreciate the jeep look and decide to undo what you’ve done. Our tastes evolve over time.

A friend of mine bought a pickup that had been “slammed”. The thing had about two inches of ground clearance, rode like a buckboard, scraped even entering the Walmart parking lot, couldn’t carry any weight in the bed, and looked ridiculous. We didn’t ridicule him, but he eventually decided that he wanted a functional pickup truck, and we helped him fix it. It looks much better now — and I no longer have to wear a bag over my head when I ride shotgun in his truck.

I wave at fellow Wrangler and Gladiator owners without concern for their modifications.

Why I do so, in fact why anyone would or wouldn't, I feel, is only answered by first addressing a more broad question: which is why we wave at fellow Jeepers in the first place.

To my way of seeing things, YMMV, the wave recognizes affinity with a brand--which then brings us to the question of what that brand represents.

The Jeep was recognized by President Eisenhower as one of top three or four vehicles that helped win WW II. That win promoted our way of life where freedom, and the right to customize things to our liking, and respect other's right to same (provided the message is individual expression and not bigotry based), even if not our taste, is what's important.

And that's why I wave without regard to mods, angry eyes or not.

I always wave to TJ, LJ, YJ, CJ, and older Jeeps, just a habit from having my first CJ in 89 and then a TJ forever. Other than that, mostly just to lifted JK's and JL/JT's as the non lifted crows rarely waves back and in Colorado, everyone ones a 4 door wrangler. I also have a few XJ's and when I drive that, I only wave to lifted XJ owners and they almost always wave back.

Your point about the BRAND is spot on, however, the grill is the most iconic part of the brand. I believe that is why many get so bent out of shape over covering it up with crap.
