I don’t wave to them or pavement princesses (my definition: unmodified jeeps that look like they’ve been eternally cursed to a life of pavement by an uncaring overlord).

I feel like it would upset the Jeep, and the owner wouldn’t care anway.

Side question? Why do you folks hate that mod so much? People buy a jeep and change every facet of it but you touch the grill and it’s the worst thing ever and the owner is shamed for it.
Jeeps and the Jeep community are a happy lot. Anger amongst us isn’t desired. Turn the frown upside down.

I’ll wave at other two doors regardless of angry grill. We are in the better 11% after all. ?

Everyone else just gets a wave back if they initiate. Although, I do feel some guilt waving back at an angry grill either way. ?

My boss has a nice Jeep. Lift, wheels, and all the fluff including an angry grill. He loves the grill. I asked him to go wheeling with me this weekend. SMORR in Missouri opens this weekend. He doesn't want to cause he is scared he might hurt something. Typical angry grill pavement princess. What's the point in having all that crap on a Jeep you won't even take on easy trails?

They are often very enthusiastic about Jeeps. I will always wave at them.

That doesn't mean their grille isn't ass ugly.

Lets say, you are broken down far out in nowhere, you are out of food, only have 3 oz of water left, no cell or sat reception, too far to walk out and the only person that you have seen in 3 days drives up to you and asks if you need help. This Jeep, of course, has an angry grill. What do you do?

Angry-Jeep owners and women who drive Jeeps with pink adornments are the two groups I regularly notice never wave.

This is my wife’s. She’s always distracted by something, often misses her exits, might have ran a red light or two, but I’ll be damned if she doesn’t wave at every Jeep she passes ?

I wave at fellow Wrangler and Gladiator owners without concern for their modifications.

Why I do so, in fact why anyone would or wouldn't, I feel, is only answered by first addressing a more broad question: which is why we wave at fellow Jeepers in the first place.

To my way of seeing things, YMMV, the wave recognizes affinity with a brand--which then brings us to the question of what that brand represents.

The Jeep was recognized by President Eisenhower as one of top three or four vehicles that helped win WW II. That win promoted our way of life where freedom, and the right to customize things to our liking, and respect other's right to same (provided the message is individual expression and not bigotry based), even if not our taste, is what's important.

And that's why I wave without regard to mods, angry eyes or not.
I like this view. It’s a new perspective.

The jeep wave started when jeeps were uncommon and had zero social status. They were driven by utility-minded folks… farmers, ranchers, plow companies, hunters, etc… In the 70s you could drive all over the place for days without seeing another CJ. It was kinda like wearing the jersey of a small, unpopular, sports club. When you saw somebody else wearing/driving one it was a reminder that you weren’t alone in your allegiance.

These days, inexplicably, jeeps are the new yuppy ride. And gangsta-ride. And grocery getter. And commuter. And so on. You can’t swing a horse tail without hitting one. So jeep ownership isn’t lonely anymore, and the odds are I have little in common with the guy driving the jeep next to me. That’s perfectly fine, but it feels a lot less like a group of folks with similar interests.

I was going to suggest that 1960s and 70s jeep ownership was like kayak ownership today, but it was probably more like kayak ownership in 1980 or 1990. As near as I can tell, modern folks buy jeeps, kayaks, and dive watches without any intention of using any of them for their intended purposes. The more I think about it the less I understand. I guess increasing confusion of ever type sneaks up on you as you get older. I’m learning to let go. :)

Or any other 4WD. “Mark’s” Blazer had every upgrade possible, lifted so high you struggled to get in (dropped driveshafts regularly), tires looked like they were from “Tractor Supply”…… he was following us but didn’t show up, we went back in case he broke down, he parked on the side of the main road and was walking down the muddy dirt road to not get it dirty.
