So i've been pretty pi$$ed about the 5 inch uconnects performance so i called the complaint line.

Described my issues:
.lack of functionality in usb mode due to the display especially in album and folder searches
.lack of channel memory labeling past the first 5 mems
.poor antenna reception
.poor serius reception
.lack of source and tracck memory

Took 3 levels of support but Told them ive always had base radios and have never been dissapointed until now. That i wanted to take a crowbar to this radio. That my 14 challenger base radio was light years better than this.

I asked for an upgrade to the 7inch but they refused. Instead offering to pay 1 month of my payment which was 320 a month. I responded with how about 500. And they agreed. Check will be coming within the month.

Also
Be kind and ask for their supervisor team. The guy I talked to was Nicholas at level 3. So I went through entry level employee, then their manager, then their manager...who was Nicholas.

At all levels they wanted me to bring it in for service to check out and I had to convince them that all of the 5 inch radios behave this way due to the firmware and that I shouldn't have to wait months for a firmware update. Bringing it in would be pointless since its firmware. I related it to firmware on a laptop computer to get them to see this. At one point they also offered to simply replace the 5" radio but i told them that because this is a firmware issue that wouldn't solve the problem and could simply cause more since now the dash panels would have to be removed and could get scratched up.

Call me skeptical, but nothing you mentioned is a defect condition, just your opinion on expectations after the fact. Your asking for a 7" model shows buyers remorse more than anything. Post a pic of that check when it comes in, as I am surprised they would even entertain such a complaint, let alone give you compensation.

The 5" radio has SIGNIFICANT problems and pretty much everyone who has one is complaining about it. Check the threads. If you have an iPhone and the 5" radio, it's basically unusable.

Be as skeptical as you want but what happenend is as i posted.

I can best describe the 5inch radio as very poorly programed and in such dire need of a firmware fix that it is barely functional. Being 2018 and the addition of backup cam and touchscrscreen should make this radio far more functional than the base radio in my 2014 challenger (no backup cam). Sadly it is not. This radio should never have been put in the jeep in its current firmware state. Being that i am not a crazed audiophile i simply asked for the 7inch since it is more functional. None of us regardless ofcwhat radio we ordered should have to wait months for decent firmware.

Comparing it to your Challenger is a red herring. You got the base radio, warts and all. Not saying you are not entitled to be disappointed nor saying it is not poorly designed, just saying you got what they offered and if there is actually something wrong or mis-advertised, then take it in for a warranty claim and get it fixed.

As to wanting the 7" display radio, it is part of the Technology Group package that comes with both Auto Air and a enhanced instrument cluster. They could not officially offer to you anyways without having to put all the other stuff in and change your build sheet sales coding.

Actually swapping a 5 inch for a 7 inch is simple and doesnt require all of that other stuff. You have every right to you opinion as do I.

Agree with the comment of “if you have an iPhone this 5” radio is not very useful. Mine doesn’t even have XMSirius option. Every time I get in vehicle I have to press the media button for it to connect my phone music. Never had to do that before with other vehicles I’ve had.

Anyone replaced 5” with after market radio that looks and works good with camera? If so, would y’all please post pics and details. Thank you in advance!

As an unapproved mod, no it does not require all the other stuff. You miss the point on why they are not jumping at the chance to give you a 7" radio display, their engineering configuration as they sell it retail is tied into all the other stuff and for liability reasons, they are not going to do a one off mod because of your lack of satisfaction with the 5" model. Your vehicle has a build sheet and unless it is sold as an approved MOPAR after sale accessory, they are not going to deviate from you "as build" configuration as you bought it.

Now you have $500 to spend on a very nice aftermarket!

Exactly.

As far as some peoples opinions...its just that your opinion. I doubt you run a dealership or work in this field so your opinion doesnt hold a lot of weight. I can happily get a nice aftermarket or the mopar 7inch since my dealer sells me parts for cost. Havent decided yet.

Kinda funny on these forums that you try and help folks and instead get some tool who obviously has no experience with radio in question trying to squash a thread.

Sheesh. Why does @Hootbro give a crap about OP getting some $$?

Well done, OP. I admire your tenacity.

HOOTBRO,

I have a 5" radio. The software is horrible - the progression for the menu and options were clearly not well thought out or developed. There is no excuse for that, it is 2018. I did not want all the luxury stuff (electric windows, locks, heated seats, big screens with color options for the background, subwoofer, leather, heated steering wheel, etc.). That does not mean because I do not own a Rubi I should be expected to live with crap. Your logic is odd in that way because if you had this base radio, even though it is the base, you would not be happy. It is my only serious complaint about the JL other than the tall gearing of 3-6 on the MT.

Now, I wholeheartedly agree that I should NOT get a free upgrade and it may or may not be feasible - I have no idea.

Whether I can or cannot afford it is not the point. My stripper 4dr sport stickered around $33k. I should not have to wait roughly 1 minute for my phone to connect (and sometimes it never connects), I should not have to push 3-4 buttons just to get to my phone's music (with each one having serious lag so that it takes a LONG time to get through the progression). I swear, FCA put pentium chips in these things or a hamster on a wheel powers the brain. It is truly the slowest "moving" touch interface in the history of touch screens.

I wish they would have just put an old school analog cd radio in it with a USB jack to plug in the phone.
