I have a rubicon and if i could do it again id go with the willys with xr package because i never even need to use the lockers unless its winter

The Willys LSD will be more useful that lockers in winter, too. LSD works 24/7, dry, rain or snow.

The Willys LSD will be more useful that lockers in winter, too. LSD works 24/7, dry, rain or snow.
yeah agreed, if you could use the rear lockers in 4wd high or rwd it would make the rubicon way better. but unfortunately you need a tazer for that and im not willing to bypass the sgm. at least the rubicon hood looks cool though lol

Unless you're offroad, then this is dead wrong.

There should be NO reason to use lockers in the snow other than offroading.

Lockers and highway/pavement driving shouldn't be in the same conversation

Yesterday I posted a thread and received a lot of great help from the community and really appreciated that. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t have an input on me deciding on the wrangler. Although I was probably always gonna get a wrangler anyway. But Now that I’m locked in on a wrangler, I’m deciding between a Willy’s xtreme recon package or just going with a standard rubicon with an aftermarket lift and 35s. I don’t offroad, but I’m 24 and also have never had a vehicle capable of off-roading. So I’m sure I’d definitely at the minimum take it on some trails here in NY. Basically I’d like to know what would be the benefit of going with a standard rubicon with some options added rather then just opting for the Willy’s xtreme recon package that already comes from factory with a lift/35s and other plus’s for about 5-6k less. Once again thanks for the help guys.
The Rubicon is the better off road car. You may have other considerations, such as cost, and the Willys ain’t no weak sis.

that was kind of impied lol. but i barely even use 4 low unless im stuck. OP said he wasnt going to be doing any extreme offroading just trails which is similar to my situation hence i never even use my lockers unless i get stuck which is rarely ever unless we get like 5 feet of snow. to me it makes more sense to have bigger wheels and lift than lockers but i wasnt able to find anything with xtreme recon package when i bought mine, since he has the choice id pick the willys XR

ok - that's fair. I should have included more too. I've seen a couple of posts here where the impression is that lockers might be used on road in the snow (unless I'm just reading it wrong). I just want to make sure some of the newbies don't read it the same way. ?

Yeah. Be careful what you wish for. Lockers in snow + on-road can quickly turn into a slippery combination.

dont get me wrong, im aware that using lockers on pavement will destroy the differentials. It’s not just the strain on the driveline.

No doubt lockers very useful in low-traction, low-speed conditions. The reason automakers normally refuse to allow for lockers to work on 4Hi is because lockers significantly impact handling. And the faster the vehicle moves, the greater the impact lockers have on handling.

Rubicon all the way. It’s the best platform out of the box. You don’t need to upgrade anything and you’ll crush every badge trail. If you want to mod you’re still better off with the rubicon as a starting point. If you’re modding everything imaginable you should buy a used TJ and get to work on that. It’s only money…

If you decide you REALLY want to do a lot of technical off-roading you'll wish you'd gotten the Rubicon for the few times you might find the lockers handy. But the Willys is a great package and, quite frankly, there are days I wish I'd gone that route. Great platform to build it out the way you want. Also have to consider that within two years you may be wanting a Bronco anyway. [ducks]

Here is my suggestion - get what YOU want and don't slam (not that you would, but others here seem to enjoy that) other for what they got. ;)

I can share my experience, I went with a Rubicon - I knew it would be my daily driver, and I knew I would have the top off as much as possible during the summer. I also knew with a Rubicon I would do a trip or 2 per year to do some 4 wheeling. I also love the look of the Rubicon. My regret is the XR package was not available at the time I ordered. I like the XR wheels with 35 inch tires, but they are stupid expensive after market.

From what you have described the Willys with XR seems like a perfect solution.
