Does anyone else struggle with disconnecting the power plug in the driver side rear of the hardtop?

Yes I’ve depressed the red latch. But after that, it’s a struggle, and the upper half always pops free from the mount. Is it supposed to stay connected to the hardtop? Did I break it? I can’t get a hand on the upper half very well and I feel like I’m pulling down and stressing the wires.

Any better techniques?:fingerscrossed:

I have always found that if you gently push the connectors together and then depress the release and then pull them apart they will usually come apart easier.

I know ita probably a dumb question.. but are you disengaging the lock first? by that I mean pulling the red tab straight down towards the floor to disengage the lock.. then after that pushing the tab in to release and pull it out?

Yes, see my original post. I always disengage that red tab, downward.

Good news, it’s a snug fit so everything works when you connect it back together.
Bad news, stupid hard to disconnect and the piece attached to the hard top always ends up dangling by the wires.

I’ve seen the replacement cover, but haven’t made any effort to purchase one

What tab?

Red tab down, yep. After that… ?

I just went and pushed everything I could and it still won’t disengage. I totally feel like I’m doing something wrong.:swear:

Pull the red tab down. Then you have to push it in while pulling the lower part of the connector out of the top part which stays attached to the hardtop. I hate this connection and the ones doors too. You’d think they’d have engineered a better plug when it gets such a high usage.

The very first time I tried disconnecting that plug I ended up breaking the holder for the hard top end. Not a big deal, everything still plugs and unplugs fine, just annoyed that it’s not held secure to the top.

It is counterintuitive, but you need to push both sides of the plug/connectors together before pulling them apart. Push down and unlock the red tab. Then, rather than starting to pull, push the 2 sides of the plugs together and then pull apart.

Okay, thanks everyone. I figured it out! (With your help).

Red tab down (it makes a little snap).
Then, push the red tab rearward! Not the sides, not the gray parts… but the red tab. Push it rearward and the two halves of the plug literally come apart like butter.

crazy!
