I have more or less made all my other choices with the exception of the engine (OK, it won't be a 392). Would like something fun to drive, and expandable in the future. I spoke with Edelbrock the other day, and they won't be trying to make a supercharger for the etorque V6 and think no one will. Both the 2.0 and diesel have options.

For mainly on-road driving, which engine has the best fun-factor?

I don’t think any of the jeep engines would be considered “fun” to drive on the highway or otherwise. The 392 is fun but obviously that is excluded. The fun part is where the jeep takes you….not particularly what the engine feels like getting there.
i guess this is somewhat subjective and others may find some engine variants more fun than others on the road.

The 4xe has ample power for the chassis. Tons of fun on and off road. With 4hi on and traction control off you can surprise a lot of people off the line. It is next fastest after 392 and the others are not close to it. The battery (which never loses power even at 0 percent) feels like a small supercharger when you hit the gas.

Test drive one and see if it would be enough for you.

I did not like the 4Xe. Granted, the salesman didn’t know squat so it was the blind leading the blind.

Still, the salesman told me to come to a full stop and then floor it. I did so and caught the Jeep off-guard. It didn’t know what to do; hesitated for a few seconds while it figured out if it should use the electric motor, the 2.0T or both. I got no power; I was disconcerted. When it finally kicked in, the poor little engine screamed like a cat in heat chased by five horny dogs.

It was terrible; the farthest thing from “fun”.

I drove the rest of the way like an 80-year old grandma.

Interesting to see the 4Xe getting all the love. There just seems to be a lot of hassle associated with it when the electric range on its own won’t even get me one way to work.

I guess if I had to say, the diesel is my clubhouse leader at the moment.

3.6 e torque.
A 4xe is going to lose its range yearly and if you plan on keeping it a long time in ten years you will be driving around with a useless battery that adds dead weight and stuck with a 4 cylinder.

To be fair you didn’t give parameters only asked for most fun. 4xe gets the love because it has the most torque and power after the 392, and let’s be honest that’s what people equate with on road fun.

I like the 2.0T, enough so that I bought one. Torquiest engine available in a 2 door, a real nice treat coming from a 3.6 JK. Lighter than the diesel when in a 4 door.

Good ol' pentstar 3.6L w/manual transmission! Compared to the other engines it's tried, tested, & true. Besides, driving with a stick shift is always the most fun!

I love my little 2.0L The turbo kicking in can catch you a bit off guard and has plenty of git-up-n-go. I floored 1 of the dealer's loaners that had it in there (JLU) and it kicked my head back in surprise (wasn't expecting that from a 2.0L), and that weighs more than my JLR, so I'm excited to feel it once my engine is good for it. It's certainly not throaty but it is pretty fun.

I've got a JT with the Pentastar (don't like it nearly as much, it was 1 of the main reasons I got the 2.0L) and my Cadenza has a very nice smooth V6 that has more horse/torque than the Pentastar (not hard to do) that I liked very much, but this is more fun.

Agreed, appreciate your input….I was just surprised.
