I have found a few threads about installing a kill switch type solution to assist in theft prevention. I would love to hear about any Do(s) and Don't(s) you have encountered while doing your own. Or why certain connections breaks would be better than others.

If utilizing something like a fuel pump how long does the Jeep run before it dies? Or does it die / fail to start right away (which is the solution I am looking for)?

Sorry for bring this old topic back up but a friend of mine has a neighbor that had his Jeep stolen last night from his driveway. I have been talking and bouncing this topic off my Jeep buddies for awhile and since this theft was wayyyyy to close to my house I think it is time to act.

Insurance may soften the blow of the theft but will not cover everything not to mention the pain that follows the entire process.

Anyways any and all tips, videos, or comments will help. Also do not want to open the hood every time to remove / insert relay(s) as the theft solution. ?

Thanks.

It depends on how motivated the thieves are...a flatbed defeats every kill switch.
That said, I've thought of various ignition, ecm, fuel, etc kill options over the years but never implemented them. I think the key is to keep it simple, and hidden. Find any small wire that powers an important function...splice in with your kill, hide the work. Basic instructions without giving anything away.

I just installed this and it's amazing! It's not cheap but neither was the rig

I've seen that, and I'm sure it works, but I've also read where some guys have had issues because of the complexity. Isn't the key chain really big too?

I have to ask how often are modern vehicles stolen? I work for police and the only even remotely new vehicles stolen are Hyundais and Kias, 2017-2020. I haven’t seen any other new vehicles stolen without keys being used either the person leaving keys in the veh or letting someone use the vehicle and not returning it. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen I just haven’t seen it.

I could never, its REALLY complicated and all the wiring is the same color to further shut down theives. I found a master installer that does them he travels the eastern seacoast. I think he is going to be in Florida in the coming months. The guy is AMAZING and a true professional. I was blown away by his customer service. I can PM you his info if you like.

No issues at all for me, I used a Master installer. The fob is a cap that goes out of sight under the dashboard and you can't see it. It's a great level of security to add to try and foil the thieves.

Yeah you have to update your research. The new TRX trucks are being stolen in under 2 minutes by reprogramming a used key bought on eBay. Guys are waiting the 8 months for their trucks on order and getting them stolen in weeks after they finally get them. Just hit YouTube there is a ton of them.

My one-year free Sirius Guardian just expired and they wanted $25 month, for what? to start my Jeep from anywhere, find it, or look and unlock it, now if they have that technology, why can't they add a notice of vehicle moving and a kill switch from your phone!
Now THAT I would pay $25 a month for.

Uhhhh.....have you seen your fob? You're already carrying a suitcase, what's another keychain gonna do? ;)

Yes, the fob barely fits anywhere with my house key...then you want to add a hat box to the suitcase?

Let's get to the root of this... why is it so easy to program a duplicate key and how are they stealing the Jeeps? I read a post where someone said they bring another ECM? I've also heard of boosting the key signal if it's in the house?

I suppose if you live somewhere that your parking on the street perhaps buy an old AMC Gremlin that barely runs and save up for a nicer place with a garage before spending all your dough on a fancy car ?
Just sayin
