The engine cover was deleted right after the merger with Peugeot. I was told it was a cost cutting measure by Stellantis.
Those cheapskates.

viper88, where have you been for three pages? We needed you a lot sooner.

Kinda cheesy if U ask me. $50k + & No engine cover? It’s not the point, If it’s needed or not. I expect it! … I guess we really don’t need floor mats either…. Whatever, Just build my XR already!
If you expect it, want it, and it's not there then you're free to reject the Jeep when it arrives!

When I first saw these threads I was hoping that Jeep had dropped the engine cover on their diesels in a feeble attempt to deal with overheating, but oh well.

I heard Stellantis sold the rights to the Wrangler name to Citroën for 40M Deutschmarks and in return, our 2023 mid-cycle refresh is gonna be a rebadged Citroën Ami with a 2-foot lift and fold down front windshield. Times are tough man,

Nobody tell Scotty Kilmer. He'll be so excited that he'll be sure that he'd stumbled upon an automotive trend which he's endorsed for years and years (as he wildly gesticulates his arms in the air in excitement).

[wildly flings "beauty cover" off-camera and towards the grass]

I have a diesel, and I have a cover. That makes me superior to those that had theirs deleted!
BTW we are only on post #52 so we need folks chiming in so we can make it to 100 posts for this thread.

The question was asked, if the cover is no longer needed why are the threaded holes still there for the cover. The answer is molds. Large molds can take up to a week to machine. and for an operation as large as 3.6 engine manufacturing there are probably a lot of molds needed. You can bet each one of those top molds cost about $30k-$50k each. It is cheaper to keep using the molds, and keep tapping those holes rather than spending $$$ to change it up for aesthetics. What they should have done was just put bolts into those empty threaded holes to clean the look up. Post #53.... over halfway to 100 posts.

I'm glad I have a cover because after I kick it my son/grandsons will know what engine their new toy has.

Yeah, I 100% get that and honestly doubt they'll ever bother changing the mold until it's absolutely needed for some other reason - and even then, why bother? My particular mention of the open mounts was more geared towards me being a tad OCD and knowing that something is obviously missing at a very cursory glance.

Maybe Threedom will come up with some nifty custom engine cover delete caps to plug the holes?

(and not intentionally ragging on Threedom, cause I actually kinda like frivolous stuff like that, or at least appreciate that it exists for those that do!)

What length, diameter, and thread count do I need to put them in there? Maybe I can get some in a cool anodized color to match my hydro blue paintjob.

Other vehicles that use the same engine will still have an engine cover fitted. Deleting the threaded holes would then require 2 different part numbers for the intake manifold, and an additional engine build variant.
Leaving the holes in keeps things standard, avoiding cost and complication.
The whole point of deleting the cover was to save money, which they've done.

If for any reason someone wants to fit a cover, it is easy to add one.

Jeeps!
Just got my factory ordered 2022 JL Rubicon and noticed, no engine cover under hood. the mounts for cover was left open.
Reached out to jeep customer care and dealer. They mentioned it no longer providing and its ok to leave the mounts open.
Do anyone noticed it ?
If yes, make a complaint to jeep customer care. so they will review it again.

Not trying to bash here, but it looks much better than the mess under the Bronco's hood.
