I really don’t care how anyone else spends their money, unless they owe me. I wouldn’t compare wanting the latest widget or paint color with clean water and a reliable food supply though.

@DanW - I picked up 5 more Ultras today that were still the synthetic media with mesh backing. I am not sure when the new ones will hit the pipeline, but I wanted some of the "originals".

Lol, I picked our local Wallyworld clean and bought 3 more. So I've got a pretty good stash between those and the clearance M1 filters I have. But I'm feeding two Pentastars, now, so that's 1/2 stash for each! Lol!

Why is wanting the latest and greatest a negative? ...and why is it "too many"? I think it's "the American way". That is: I think it's capitalism working its majic. People wanted clean water and steady sources of food, so the made reservoirs, piping systems, gardens, chicken coops and ranches. People want reliable, comfortable transportation, and some want recreational capabilities in their vehicles too. Need is the mother of invention and want is the mother of capitolism. You have to admit, "want" is a lot more fun than "need".
The problem comes when people develop a want into a need because of a paranoid delusion.

I'll let you know if I see the new one. All of my Ultras are the previous gen, too.
I'm probably going to grab a few more and vacuum seal them. I have two 3.6L to maintain as well (did have 3).

Judging by the number of threads about warranty, I would bet that most of this forum does not keep vehicles up to even 200k. I’ve seen people refer to 100k as a high mileage vehicle.

City dwellers I’m sure.
My ol’ 2018 RAM 4500 Cab & Chassis has earned its keep......it was purchased brand new, and my 100k power train warranty was fully extinguished in 299 days.

It’s currently at 417k miles as of tonight, but here’s a memorable 400k shot of the odometer.

I have no delusions that I'm aware of.

I jumped on the bandwagon just the other day. Both Lexus and my GMC truck got fresh oil change and using old Fram Ultra Mesh in my truck and new Fram Ultra design in the Lexus:

https://www.fram.com/team-fram/latest-news/fram-announces-new-ultra-synthetic-oil-filter-design/

I have seen both side by side torn apart and they both look to be a pretty good filter. The only difference with the new design is more filtering media to make up for the removed mesh.

Prior to this I was using the Mobil 1, Purolator Boss, Bosch, and a few others. My last oil change was with Wix XP's on both vehicles and it turned out to be a crap filter. Less than 2,000 miles and both Lexus and GMC's oil was filthy on the dipstick. It drained out of the pans dark black. This was the first time I have seen this on either vehicle. Normally my oil drains are a translucent dark golden brown after 3,000 miles.

I am not a fan of Fram as I've had them rupture in generator applications. I decided to give them another chance seeing as the Wix XP's on both vehicles failed to filter the oil as expected by dozens of previous oil changes.

How did the Wix XPs fail to filter as expected? I ask because I counted another 7 XPs in my garage for the Jeep. I think I bought 10 shortly after getting the JL.

Which FRAM model did you have rupture? Extra Guard or Tough Guard? I am assuming that it was not an Ultra.

Meh...that is not a concern for me. The FRAM Ultra has backed media so the chances of rupturing are next to nil and if it did and caused an issue FRAM has a warranty and the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act would be in full play here as well.

@DanW - tore a FRAM Ultra apart a while back:

https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/fo...s-to-wring-its-filters-out.49733/post-1218917
I’m not weighing in on the likelihood of the filter rupturing, but if it did so, and the engine lost all its oil and seized, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act wouldn’t be relevant.

That Act protects the consumer when warranty coverage for a repair is being denied based on the fact that the vehicle has been modified, but the modification is completely unrelated to the repair that needs to be done. In a scenario like the one suggested here, where the aftermarket part fails in a way which causes the damage/failure, the Act is not in play, and the manufacturer is off the hook. You’d be left looking to Fram and whoever did the oil change (if it was somebody else) to help pay for that new motor.

All my oil changes with the exception of motor flushes come out translucent brown or honey colored. This is the first time in over 20 years and numerous oil changes that it drained pitch black on both vehicles. This leads me to believe that the Wix XP's were defective. I purchased them from the same vender on Amazon so there is a possibility they were counterfeit. Still, I'm not going to chance it.

Gosh that was over 25 years ago. I have no clue "which model" except we were happy the low oil pressure shutdown saved the motor. This is the first time since then I have used a Fram oil filter. I'm a bit nervous but I'm going to be checking my oil pressure gages more frequently to insure the filters are at least holding up to the pressure.

I guarantee those mesh Frams won't tear apart. The media is the hardest I've ever tried to tear, by a long shot.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new one. Fram told me it will be made in the USA, which is nice to see. It will also filter smaller particles less than 20 microns better than the current one. Not by a wide margin, but definitely better.
