I know there are lots of folks running Scangauge or Banks devices to display regen information, so I thought I would throw this out…

After a regen, what percentage does your soot indicator settle on, and how quickly does it start climbing?

I will go first… After a regen, mine usually reads 9 for the soot level. Then, it usually climbs pretty quickly to 13 or 14 (maybe 10-12 miles), even with highway driving. I am just wondering if this is normal, or if others are getting to 8 and staying there for a bit?

Mine is a 2021 with 25k miles and the 33 inch MTs. No lift, but I have a winch in front and aftermarket wheels.

Pretty much you answered your own question. Same on my side and I think everything I have read says the same thing

My 1500 EcoD does similar. I’m thinking normal.

Seems normal. Usually at 80 it starts then settles on 8, climes back up into the teens quickly after that. I’m planning on switching to primarily renewable which supposedly burns much cleaner and leads to less regens.

When regen terminates, it shows 8% but after a few miles, it goes up and fluctuates between 10-14% whether you are driving on the highway or on street. This was what I used to see with Scangauge.

After some reading, I am wondering the same thing. I hope renewable fuel will help keep this beast soot free.

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping that was the case. A couple acquaintances swear that they hit 8 every time and it stays there for several miles. I am just trying to establish what is normal, without talking with a dealership.

Perfectly normal to see the fluctuations. There were a couple of rare occasions when it stayed at 8 till I reached my destination, and then the next day, it started to fluctuate wildly again from 8. I think it is not really the soot that is fluctuating but probably the sensor giving off wrong reading. Or it may be the fuel not completely burnt in the exhaust after regen that could be interpreted as soot and as it evaporates due to heat, it fluctuates.

Also, if you do a lot of highway driving, and do passive regens, you will never get to 80%. But even if the reading is in the 50s and if you've driven around 700+ miles or so, you will see the active regen initiates and the soot % rises immediately to 80%. Some think it may not be the miles but engine run hours. So the rule is that active regen starts when soot gets to 80% or certain numer of miles driven, whichever comes earlier.

Mine kicks in at 80. Runs until 8. Once in a while it will get "stuck" and will stop dropping for a bit in the middle of a regen. Then suddenly it will drop to 8.
