My 2021 EcoDiesel is still 100% stock. Well except for the belly pan, 3” lift, MC control arms, Falcon shocks, Adam’s driveshafts, and 37” mud terrains.

I decided to help a stranded motorist yesterday and even keeping it in 1st gear and towing along the shoulder I couldn’t keep my oil temps down to a reasonable level.

Why can’t Jeep design a cooling system that can keep up when we’re doing normal Jeep things in 100° weather???

Normal Jeep things (not to be confused with “truck things”)

As soon as I resolve my current scenario or whenever my warranty is denied I’m adding the RPM fan controller. Nothing worse than having those nagging doubts in the back of your mind and then later taking it off road.

Honestly, I don't feel like what you're doing is a normal Jeep thing.
Pulling that rig out of a rut, or soft shoulder, that's a normal Jeep thing.
That's a lot to tow on a hot day for anything but a short distance.
Turbo is making a lot of boost, tranny is working hard, the weight of what your pulling is probably well over the rated max for the diesel. That's going to be a lot of heat to try and shed.

All while having to turn big heavy mud tires with reduced airflow due to the aftermarket belly pan and low speeds.

Both that truck and the camper are above your tow rating...combined it's not even close.

When my radiator left the chat up on a mountain, a guy with a lifted diesel JL on 37s towed my Jeep 15 miles up and down grades…mostly up and flat and then a long downhill at the end. He said it never broke a sweat but it was only in the mid 80s. Just one data point and maybe irrelevant. What kind of a grade were you on?

I have to agree with the other comments. Sorry, but you really need a 2500 or greater pickup truck. IMHO.

you were pulling an 8,000 plus lb truck and a 10,000lb trailer, not counting your 5,000 plus.

I am not seeing 23,000 anywhere near the capability of a 3.0

Hope the computer saved you from damaging the jeep

ya absolutely. It was more tongue in cheek poking fun at those that complain when they’re loaded down, oversized tires, trailer, going over mountain passes.

On the bright side, I do believe I cooked off some soot in the DPF. Only got to 244° on the oil which I’ve done just driving in the heat at speed over hills here in Tejas.

Ya I figured about the same in weight. Since he was able to idle and it would roll on flat ground I was thinking I’d mostly just be helping on the occasional slight uphills.

The chiming was his truck complaining about low fuel pressure and the sound coming across the phone which we had on speaker so we could coordinate.

Definitely hope the computer was looking out for itself.

The RPM fan controller isn't available for the Diesel.

What do you consider to be a reasonable oil temperature?

More importantly, why do you think a < ½ ton truck can haul that heavy of a load without problems?
