Spoke to adams and ordered a 1350 front driveshaft that would connect to my stock d44 m221. The drive shaft looks right and the connectio.n at the axle is good but the new yoke doesn't seal like the factory doen. Pic is of the factory and the silver adams yoke. This is wrong correct?

That dust shield on the factory yoke isn't strictly necessary. It doesn't really do anything.

As long as the actual seal pressed in to the housing seals with the yoke you're good.

I guess it's just not sealed around the outer rubber ring on the transfer case which makes me nervous. I'm going to tighten the yolk and run it for awhile without the front drive shaft and see what happens (in 4x)

You want it to bottom out against the bearing. And torque it properly.

Lots of axles don't have that dust shield. It's a useless addition. It doesn't actually protect anything. And in fact it can trap mud and small stones that can tear up the actual seal.

Exactly this. All that thing does is trap debris. It doesn’t do anything positive.
