To get back to your questions I forgot to answer earlier.I see some people putting RTV on the splines of the yoke, and some people putting it on the contact surface of the nut. Pros and cons of each? Why not both?
Also I see some people only using blue loctite and some using red. Opinions? Thanks
On the splines, the RTV has a lot of surface area. The splines are tight but with a layer of RTV, you have a lot of coverage. Also, when you insert the yoke, the tcase shaft splines end up pushing out the excess. And it ends up right under the nut. So you get even more sealing.
As far as locktite, I use blue. I torque to spec, which is good by itself. The locktite is just extra insurance. I also know I'm likely to take it apart for maintenance. Blue locktite is way easier to break free than red. I'm doing my future self a favor by using blue in that respect.
