God must have made a revision then. Even the first Jeeps had a rear seat. All old pics from back then showed it installed (usually with someone in it).

EXTRA DOORS DO NOT GIVE YOU EXTRA SEATS FFS!
I may be misunderstanding and you know you aren't replying to me but -

In the case of the JL, the extra doors literally give you an extra seat. 4 seats for the JL and 5 for the JLU.

Sorry for any confusion but the original post asking for pros and cons was only talking about a 2 or 4 door jl, never mentioned jlu. So between those two choices the number of doors make no matter concerning seating capacity which was the factual point I was making. How jlu came into it I'll never know.

Am I missing something (JL = 2dr & JLU = 4dr)?

I’m curious to know what you think a JLU is…

I hate to be the smart one in the crowd, but with ratchet straps three kids ride real well on the back of our JLR. Its also quiet, none of that "can we stop I need to pee nonsense". can even run USB power out the back window when they want to play games and so on.
They look really cute going over Black Bear pass in their little snow suits....?

I have a Gladiator and while waiting on an axle, I bought a 16 two door rubicon. I love it. I would only have it while having an extra vehicle. I would not want to try and put anything behind the seats. I wook the back seat out and use the tail gate. My kids are grown.

It's only stupid if you really want a 4dr.

Good news is whatever you choose will hold its value better than most vehicles if you find out you should have got the other one and need to trade it in.

Smart. Also no crumbs in the seats.
