A sound I truly miss, and they would run for their time. But I settled for L-79’s in my 66 Nova (stolen and stripped) and 63 Jeep. Upgrade the weak point lifters, *intake, carb, ignition, add headers and they would run with the solid lifter engines without the hassle.I sprayed plenty of starter fluid (either) in my JD 60 in Texas winters.
Hell, I bet u-joints last twice as long because of not getting shocked by a screaming engine with the choke stuck when shifting from park to drive or reverse! Also, anyone remember how many alternators were destroyed because of v-belts getting tightened too much!
2nd 392, ah but those Duntov 30-30’s sure did sound mean in a 327![]()
*Early L-79’s had a decent aluminum high rise, the very last ones back to iron. Also a CR drop from 11-1 to 10.5-1 , derated 25 HP so they had less than a standard 396.
Love the “Ring” of 3x2’s and 2x4’s when opened up.
