Oh boy...mine started doing that on cold days in Colorado. Then a few weeks ago got the dreaded "service hybrid system" warning on a cold morning and car would not start at all. Towed to dealer and they did some programing and the recall.

Got it back and...no start on cold morning, it warmed up outside and started. Then last week, same thing. brought it to dealer and now it wont start at all.

They have no Idea what is wrong. They contacted Jeep engineers. Now they think it is some EV control module that is back ordered, also may need a new battery $$$. In the meantime cant get a courtesy car, and am trying to get someone @JeepCares to figure out how to get me a car while it is in the shop.

Love the jeep, but it really should be programed if the EV system fails you can still drive it with the ICE!

-5C and the Wrangler is back to behaving nicely, always running on battery, and the battery isn't evaporating quickly either.

This sounds horrible. Fingers crossed it gets sorted for you. Keep us posted.

Not experiencing the same issues here. I have noticed that unless I start my 4xe and let it warm up for a few minutes before I drive, I get stuck in Hybrid mode with “Electric Mode temporarily not available.” Temperatures here have been single digit Fahrenheit to slightly negative. If I don’t remote start and let it warm up, I only get Hybrid mode.

Range definitely suffers the colder it gets. Definitely things to consider and was a concern of mine before reading other posts and figuring out that i needed to let it warm up.

Someone mentioned there are a few temp sensors on the 4xe, so the hybrid system my not be depending on the dash temp, dunno
There are quite a few sensors on all Wranglers.

Among the many places, there are temperature sensors for: ambient temperature, air intake, air intake after turbo (unconfirmed), air intake post-intercooler, coolant temperature, transmission temperature, uConnect electronics temperature, temperatures for all your computer modules, cabin temperature, steering wheel temperature, 12v battery temperature, and even then I'm sure I'm missing a dozen if not more temperature sensors.

Yes, I would expect there to be a high-voltage battery temperature sensor. And almost certainly another one for the coolant line that runs through it, too.

Wranglers are filled with sensors!

I have found my Wrangler to be sensitive, so talking to her before I start her seems to help. She is trying you know.,

With warming temperatures this week, I experimented a little. On my Jeep, -10 Celsius seems to be the threshold. Colder than that it won't run in electric-only mode but warmer than that, it does. I was riding along at -9 Celsius in electric-only mode this afternoon. Would I like it if it could go in electric-only mode in colder weather? Of course, I really like the electric-only mode. Is it the end of the world for me? Nah... Can't wait for the warmer weather though.

If we leave the heated garage and outside temp is 10F or lower, we'll get 4 or 5 miles all electric. What's odd is that at 15-20F we can run the battery to zero as long as we don't turn it off for a minute or two - like going to the post office. After being cut off, it's all gas.

Well I was out for a bit today and drove mostly electric, even though it is -12 Celsius. Maybe -10 Celsius is not my threshold? Does the wind chill have anything to do with it? Regardless, was happy to be driving electric again in the last couple of days.

Did you have any creature comforts turned on? As others have stated I wonder if it goes off of a different temp sensor than the one that displays on the dash.

Well, nope. Winter has not neutered the 4xe whatever that means lol! It's a hybrid. So that means it can and will use ICE or battery, or both at times.

It's a PHEV capable of electric only propulsion, nothing about this thread has been in reference or relation to the performance of the ICE motor. This discussion has been focused on the impacts of cold weather on the performance and characteristics of the electric motor. As demonstrated in this thread, winter has had a measurable effect on the battery only capability of the 4xe.

I did notice that -12c yesterday also

However it was about -3c to -1c in Toronto today, and it only intermittently drove in electric, I tried forcing it into electric, but got the unavailable message.

It is supposed to be balmy next week, and I fixed my bicycle lock, so charging at nights will be easier again, 3 minute ride to/from public charger vs 11 minute walk, makes a difference when it's -10c and colder.

I also notice, if I charge using the FLO station that put out 7.2kw, fully charged reads 100% and 41km or sometimes 42km range

If I use another FLO or ChargePoint that charges 6.6kw or 5.5kw at 100% the range is 36km -38km, don't know what that is all about, but the range estimate either way is not what I actually get, but I usually get mostly electric driving for about 3 hours stop and go around town.

I usually run the gas first thing for about 10-15 minutes to get the engine warmed up, same time I have the steering and seat and climate heating up the inside.

I'm at 5,000km now

I did have the heated steering wheel and seat on.
Yesterday I was even able to ride within town, no faster than 70km/h in full electric mode at -13C. When I left town and sped up to 80km/h plus, it no longer ran in full electric mode. What does it mean - I don't know!?!
