So far only 1 chip for our Wrangler. Our old Commander (a few vehicles ago) was a god damned rock magnet.

Local shop charges $50 to repair a crack. We have State Farm and they used to cover chips but now it’s a comprehensive claim so we have to pay the deductible first. We have a $250 deductible so chips are out of pocket. Our insurance agent recommends paying a little more and dropping the deductible to zero for comprehensive

Exactly, I undestand the bad luck of some, but also the one of most…. Stop tailgating. Funny how the community that complains the most about windshield breaks are also the worst one when it comes to tire poke.
True, I am a zero poke guy.

We are on our second windshield. My wife was driving home from visiting me in the hospital and a rock cracked the driver’s side lower corner. It was out of the field of vision and was ok for driving although it would not have passed state inspection. We had a big storm a few weeks later that had a lot of snow and ice and when we cleaned the windshield the crack travelled a lot. We were being gentle cleaning it but it was inevitable that it was going to break.

I read an article earlier that said almost all wranglers will come with Gorilla Glass going forward. GG sucks. My bet is Jeep knows GG is crap and they are trying to burn through their buying commitments.

Had bad luck with the Renegade. First windshield chip was on the drive home from the dealership. It eventually became a crack and had to be replaced. Second windshield got hit by a rock and developed a vertical crack that eventually ran almost the full height of the windshield on the passenger side. I decided not to bother getting it replaced since I was going to trade it in on the Wrangler. My insurance has a $500 deductible which means it's cheaper to replace it out-of-pocket if you don't mind non-OEM glass.

With the Wrangler I opted for windshield insurance as part of the extended warranty. So, now I'm covered... which I assume means I'll never have a chip or a crack for as long as I own it... :)

Will a hood wind deflector help with pushing debris up over the Jeep?

Haven’t had my JL a month and had one forehead high 3 cars behind a semi and plenty of distance away. This being my first jeep I am fascinated reading this forum and info about protective screens.

Our first windshield made it just over a year, and we replaced it due to crack spreading across from a tiny chip. We installed the Jeep Hyperformance Tough windshield. Been 2.5 years with that now even though we had a near baseball sized chunk of ore from a rock hauler truck hit is and leave a nice mark without cracking or spreading for 2 years now. That thing left reddish-brown ore in the windshield and yet no crack or anything has formed. Seems to be some tough glass.

4th windshield in 4 years. Drove almost a year with a small chip. Developed huge crack from stress.
My deductible is 500 bucks, but glass cost me $380 to replace. Cost of doing business, I guess. 62k with zero issues.

I still haven't gotten it repaired yet, but I picked up a good rock chip 12 hours after getting my keys, with 14 miles on the odometer, the first time I drove it the morning after bringing it home.
I was worried insurance might be suspicious if I file a windshield claim on a vehicle I added to my policy the same day... so I've been putting it off.

I reduced my deductable to $100 a while back and it's already paid off immensely, with 2 new windshields in one month in my last car (grand cherokee)
