Yeah, I've seen that in some states having your windshield replaced can count as a claim. Too many claims can get you cancelled.

Do what I did replaced my windshield regular mopar branded glass, not Gorilla Glass, right after getting the replacement windshield book it in at an auto detailer that does clear film protective wraps with the self healing film layer. I had mine done a year ago gone through a winter of sand/salted roads and country roads and had stones pelting on the windshield without any damage and none of this penetrating through the protective film layer. The film layer to boot is sacrificial layer that can be reapplied once it’s been a few years of taken a beating but the windshield stays mint. The only downside if it’s a negative is that you shouldn’t use a scraper for the windshield in the winter time. Otherwise, it’s all pluses. It’s the best method of protecting our windshields.

It definitely saves the day. I’m slightly annoyed by the wear I am starting to see from the wipers but small price to pay.

Wipers haven’t affected or scratched mine yet. I change my wipers annually with good quality rubber/silicone to keep them slick over the glass.

Well that and insurance companies in general are now being tight asses on things they used to cover with zero or low deductibles. Progressive is still going to cover the windshield, but now there is all this extra bullshit they want to document to make sure I'm not somehow scamming them. They even asked me if I had the oil changed since the damage. The fuck does that matter?

Not a problem, handles all just fine. Mud with gritty rocks is another story. When I’m venturing on trails I use this setup filled with windshield washer fluid after going on some muddy trails as a prespray and flush the windshield before I run my Jeeps wiper and fluids. When your mobile on the road this is the best setup, It’s pressurized and strong flow of water.

In the insurance companies defense (I can't believe I just wrote that) windshield companies charge insurance more than twice the cash price. And these vehicles (now includes jeeps ) have crap on the windshield like rain sensing equipment, antenna, require calibration for adaptive cruise, etc. Makes a $160 windshield like on my TJ into a $1000 windshield on many vehicles. Insurance companies aren't going to fare well replacing thousand dollar windshields for free on a $600/ 6 mos policy.

I think they would do better giving the customer the cash for the replacement, however, the places I used to get great deals for cash now only do insurance work. Hmmm

I've never had to shop insurance until this year. I've had the same agent since the 90s, so they do their best to take care of me.

As for the oil change question, he was probably looking at your vehicle on Carfax. I'd hate to think they do this and I'll ask my agent next time. A well cared for vehicle is probably a lower risk. I do all my own maintenance and minor repairs, so nothing gets logged there on our vehicles. And, no, I'm not going to take the time to make an account and log it there myself.

Well, they're going to be disappointed as I do all my maintenance as well. The only time a dealership has even seen my Jeep was to clear recalls and fix a busted seat latch.

Yeah, I fear driving on I-70 to the ski resorts when it's nonstop grit / mud / salt being thrown on the windshield would be pretty destructive for anything trying to protect glass. Fortunately those conditions are rare.
