Everyone says you can open/close the SOT up to 60 MPH, but mine only works up to 59 MPH. Do I have an oddball SOT?? Or maybe my speedo is off??
in reverse....60 mph. ???

What are the biggest disadvantages of the Sky One Touch roof? Anyone get it and regret it? How long should one of these last if parked outside? Has anyone had to have theirs replaced?
Reasons not to get One Touch Top:

1. Cause they are dumb.
2. You can't call yourself a true Jeeper if you can't take your top fully off.
3. Only filthy rich mall crawlers buy them.
4. It's electronic, so its only a matter of time before it gets stuck.
5. When it does brake, say prayers it breaks in the closed position.
6. Did I mention how they are dumb and only for filthy rich mall crawlers?

(I have one. Had a 2D JL before this with a hard top.)

1. Not quite as open as removing the top.
2. Bird poop is a pain to scrub out.
3. Difficult to impossible to install grab handles, sunshades, etc
4. Stereo cuts out for a second on full open and initializing close.
5. Wife STILL can't trigger it to fully open on her first push.
6. Looks a little weird, even with the side panels removed.
7. Rear window remains
8. Cleaning Bird poop.

That said, it is far and away mine and my families favorite feature.
You may already know, but I saw on here somewhere that the stereo cuts out as the amplifier switches modes between "top open" and "top closed"

I knew ;) Honestly, it’s tough coming up with a list of negatives for something we love so much. If you can get one - go for it, it’s absolutely worth it.

This post seems reasonable…

We love ours and wouldn't change it. its perfect in the PNW.

Main drawback being severe lack of roof rack options. And the ones that work, might not be great with the pressure. Sometimes it will slightly pull up on the roof.

I love mine. I use it much more frequently than I would remove a hard top. Here in Austin it can go from comfortable to so hot your head catches on fire in a matter of minutes. It’s nice to open and close whenever. I could have a lift in my garage for a hardtop but it would be difficult - the ceiling in my garage is up about 17’. Plus, I don’t have room to keep it in the garage when the top is off.

Love mine! Drawbacks are as others have mentioned. The fact you can not be truly 'topless' without taking it off completely, which looks to be a pain in the videos I've viewed. But for me, knowing I don't have to remove a hard top/freedom panels or stop and open up a soft top if I want to enjoy nice weather, it's great! Ran my TJ for years without a top and had to check the weather before going anywhere, but now I just go.....nice out, push a button and pop the top.....rain? push a button and no worries....

At first, I regretted not getting the SOT roof, after reading all the rave reviews about it.

But there's 3 main reasons I'm glad I didn't get it:

  1. Pretty darn expensive
  2. Have to use extended height roof rack / crossbars, due to clearance issues.
  3. Not easy (or maybe nearly impossible?) to go truly topless in the summer.
That being said, I would definitely like to be able to open or close the roof on demand, it's a big hassle removing the hard top (or even just the freedom panels) if you're like me and need to keep switching back and forth frequently for a variety of reasons (leaving Jeep parked in public for extended periods, changes in weather, etc)

for me it would be cost and not being able to be 100% topless. Opening the top and removing the back windows isn't enough for me, I want to be 100% open

I get open enough with half doors, but it would be nice to pull the rear window off somehow..

Just get a hardtop + Sunrider. The Sunrider is so damn good. Reminds me of my old Miata roofs. It opens and closes in like 5 seconds.

Then, if winter arrives or you have a long road trip and want more peace and quiet, you just remove the Sunrider and put the panels back in. Best of both worlds.

How much heavier is the SOT compared to a normal HT? Would a Racor or Lange have the capacity?
